The land of commies and socialists!
It ain’t very friendly…

God damn crime how his family was mislead and lied to about the nature of his death.
This actually happens to people who aren't famous as well.

The hanger I stayed in while deployed to Afghanistan was dedicated to a medic who was killed in a combat hoist accident years before I got there.

The hoist cable was allowed to contact the aircraft multiple times. The cargo door track to be more specific. This sheared the cable and the medic as well as his patient fell to their deaths.

A modification was made to all UH-60s after this to help prevent it happening again.

About 5 years ago I was on FB and belonged to several Veterans groups. One guy who actually knew this guy and his family posted about the accident but his facts were so far off I felt compelled to correct them.

No ****ing BS the entire post was deleted and I got a private message about it.

Apparently the medics wife and kids didn't know the truth and I was told specifically that the post was deleted to protect them.

I couldn't believe what I was being told. I messaged this guy back basically asking WTF? And why his family didn't know what actually happened. Dude never responded and I never saw another post about it again.

I have no idea why people were not telling his wife and kid the truth. This man died while being hoisted out under fire. There's literally nothing shameful about it nor is there a reason to lie to his family. It still boggles my mind to this day.

His name was SSG Craig but I am not sure if I am spelling it correctly. I think I have a picture of the plaque outside the hanger somewhere.

Just to be clear the government or military isn't keeping the truth from his family, his buddies are.

I say that because that incident was detailed in the Army Times and Flight Facts.

Thats not exactly what this documentary says. Have you watched it?

Obviously i know nothing about the story other than what you posted, but it seems the .gov should be responsible for communicating the facts to the family, not his friends?

Because he was a celebrity, there was a push to release the details of his death prior to the standard evaluation period which allows the military sufficient time to determine the cause of death… they got it wrong with the initial press release and when the truth was revealed it caused several members their careers. Total crap show.

Yes you're right. I can speculate as to how his friends insulated his family. It wouldn't be hard initially. Keeping it going would be the hardest part.

The only thing I can think of as to why is to spare them the horrific details.
