Tire questions for my 2013 Shelby GT500. I'm currently running Nitto NT555 G2s with 285/35ZR20s in the back. Have the 265s up front.

Any issues with either the Toyo or the Nitto "cracking" in cold weather? I live in Michigan and my car is stored in an unheated garage. I do have it parked on an armor all floor covering and the car will not be driven in the winter. I have it parked and hooked up to a battery tender.
I take them in the house for the winter. Michigan here as well with an unheard garage

On a stock tire now that Nitto has more sizes available I’d go 295/35/20.
Gain some height and width and less bulge on the stock 20x9.5”
With matching Nitto fronts and no plans for heavy cornering discussed I’d go Nitto DR.
I also wouldn’t add more power until you experience the car with the new rear gears and tires.

While on the original GY's, I upgraded my suspension, see signature. It made a huge difference in the control of the car when the tires lost traction,,,, which was often.
I do not know about the percentage of improvement, but the car became manageable even with the junk GY tires after the suspension upgrades.
I was shocked at the improvements. I did get an alignment after installation.
My tire replacement was Toyo 888rs, stock sizes.
Best tire, along with G-Force Rivals, which do not have a good selection of size.
I have the G-F on a 2300 lb Cobra replica with a Stage 1 Aluminator 50 and a TKO 600 trans.

You're pretty happy with the Toyos?

I'm debating between those and the Nitto NT555R2s.

Mickey Thompson Street ss in whatever size fits your wheel will hook 650hp all day long.. same with 750.

If you want something that is less floaty at speed, go with the R888R-- bad ass tire that will hook ALMOST as good as the Mickeys but will be 10x better in the corners and at triple digit speed.

Another option is the new Aturro AZ850 Drag radial. They hook great in spring/summer but I cannot recommend for winter driving.

I have personal experience with all 3 options listed above. All good choices.

Awesome and thanks! I don't drive it in the winter. Going to look at all 3 options. You didn't mention the Nittos. No experience with them, or just don't like them?

I have not ran the 555r II's but have read great things about them. I HAVE ran the original 555r's and was not impressed.

That said, I wouldn't hesitate to try the rII's. @2011 gtcs 's approval is good enough for me.

I cannot speak for the Nittos. I did run them a long time ago, on a 99 Cobra KB SC 445 whp.
They held OK, but do not think they would hold the 645 whp of the GT 500.
The Toyos feel stable in a curve.

I run the latest NT05R on the street. They handle much better than MT's, but they do not hook as well. Plenty good for me though typically, unless I absolutely hammer it in first. I'm probably closer to 550-570 vs 650 though.

I had the Toyo Proxes drag radial on my last Cobra, liked them. Had the Nitto NT-05R's which you would think might be similar since Toyo and Nitto are basically the same company, but to me they were not as good.

The G2's were like being on an ice rink

I had the NT 555RII on my '14 GT500 that put just over 700 at the wheel. They hooked great and decent in corners (I wouldn't go road racing with them) but there was confidence in on-ramps and mountain roads. They are leaps and bounds better than the old NT 555R. That being said, the Toyo's have a great reputation as well. Can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. You already have the NT555II up front, might as well be all matchy-matchy:)

I cannot get traction. I know with this much power (648 RWHP) I'm going to struggle anyway, but it seems like even in 2nd gear I'm struggling to get traction.

The tires are practically brand new, so I'm not excited about spending money on 4 more new tires, so could I simply swap out the rears for the Nitto NT555 drag radials? If so, what size?

Or am I simply throwing money away trying to get better traction with tires and should I upgrade the stock suspension to better put the power down?

For a high powered muscle car / sport touring / street car: Nitto NT555G2 in front, NT555RII in rear. I would not put RIIs in the rear of a handling car; you can tell that the sidewall is not as firm as a similar sized Michelin, but mine haven't tried to kill me yet. I have had butt puckering moments with NT05Rs while performing abrupt lane changes at freeway speeds.

The Nitto RIIs provide noticeably more grip on the street than the NT05Rs that they replaced at the same tire pressures; I have run both on my car between 680-730whp. They also aren't terrible in the rain when new. I got stuck in traffic in Myrtle Beach during a downpour and had no loss of traction while driving appropriately for the conditions. Also, no cracking or ill effects from 40-50*F winter garage storage, but I do not drive my car in temps below 50*F.

one other thought would be your roads. Your sig says you are in Detroit (I'm sorry). A drag radial might handle the constant bumps better, due to the softer sidewall, than a road race designed tire with a stiff sidewall.
No need to be sorry.

Detroit's great, outside of the weather in the winter!
