Once winter is over I'm hoping to be terrorizing the roads this summer. I had a chance to test drive it in October. Car is extremally fast and an outrageous blast to drive, a bit noisy with how the exhaust functions, but not anything I wasn't expecting. The thing that surprised me the most is both the engine and transmission are on solid mounts, neither of which added vibrations or noise to the car. Tony has engine balance spot on with this monster of a motor.
Nah it is actually smaller than a 5.8L now. The stroke of both the 5.4L and 5.8L creates a very fast piston speed as the piston moves up and down the bore. To lengthen the stroke for a larger displacement is asking to stick a rod out of the block very quickly. The few that have tried it blew engines up in short order, including L & M with a long stroke engine at the Texas Mile a number of years ago. So going larger by increasing the stroke is out of the question. This engine is being pushed to 7700RPM now and this creates even faster piston speeds that really generate a lot of dynamic loads inside the engine as it is, a long stroke won't survive. Unfortunately these engines also have a small distance between cylinder bore centerlines, so going to a bigger bore is out of the question. In fact Ford pushed the bore diameter in size up with the 5.8L they were only able to achieve it by using the spray liner system in the 5.8L engines. I doubt you'll ever see one of these engines with a larger bore than the 5.8L engine. Maybe if you went to a wet liner system you could gain a few more CI, but I doubt that you'd gain much in displacement or Hp. These engines respond to modifications in moving air in and exhaust out of the engine for the least amount of dollars spent versus trying to add displacement in size. I doubt a 5.4L with the modifications I've done would have much of a difference in Hp output over my 5.7LIs it bigger than a 5.8 now? Can't wait to see more updates on it

I had to have the block dry sleeved after the failure it went through due to the valves putting small dings in the original spray liner cylinder walls of the driver's side bank of the engine. The extra thickness of the sleeves reduced the engine to a 350 CI displacement versus the original 353.8 CI displacement, so it is a 5.7L. But the sleeves also added additional strength to the block for more Hp without worrying about a failure in the spray liner occurring.
I'm really wanting to drive it after the MoTec install. This thing should be a very interesting street toy with some very high speed capabilities for a run at the mile events. Next year(2025) I'm hoping to twist my wife's arm for a trip to Texas, unfortunately her health has declined and her not wanting me to do it has grown stronger as she's the car approaching completion.
