Those that have only driven “modern” cars, say, 2000 my and newer have no idea of how poorly the 60’s and 70’s cars actually are in comparison. Lots of muscle cars were ordered with no ps, no pb. Many had drum brakes all around. Steering was vague at best. A 1970 LS6 Chevelle sits on basically the same suspension as a 1955 Belaire.

Not to mention God awful ergos

Something I haven't seen anyone mention is part outs.

There's a handful of well known part out shops that turn and burn a lot of cars. Parts Farm in GA at one point had 2-3 terminators (seemed like it anyway) every week being tore down and parted out. Same with Machs and other Cobras.

Feels like the part out frenzy from years past have caught up with us all, and really impacted the supply/market for these cars. It's a good thing if you own one, but a bad thing if you want too

I have a classic mustang. Everytime info somewhere and people tell me how bad they want one I ask if they have ever driven one. Because they drive like ****ing dog shit
This is true.

But I enjoy driving my 67 fastback just as much as our 19 GT 350. I guess I'm just a car enthusiast that enjoys what all cars offer.

BTW, even going from my 03 cobra to the 350 is night and day difference.

EDIT:. I'm actually at the shop right now just hanging out with the ladies.

Yup, there is this illegal **** on FB who parts out non-crashed Terminators that might just be a bit rough around the edge. I threatened to call ICE on him in one of his posts and mostly got support on that comment.

I've bought a few parts from Midway Mustangs in Iowa. At least he only parts out cars that are heavily damaged.

I enjoy it too. But I also enjoy my 66 f100 with a 3 speed and a 6 cyl. I like what I like. Most people won't. And a classic car is a massive purchase. So I just try and make sure they know what they're getting into.

When I was in college in 2008 I thought a $80k/yr salary was crazy money and I'd be well off and living high in the hog. I'm a little shy of 6 figures but I'm not balling out of control like I thought I'd be. It's actually depressing to see what I have versus what I thought I'd have. We just finished watching breaking bad and it's extremely tempting venture down that path

I hear you. I graduated college in 2008 myself and I currently make 2.7X what my first post college job paid me. With a mortgage, wife, kid and inflation, it's definitely not the baller status I thought I'd be when in six figures.

Wife does work but makes barely half as much I do though. F'ing daycare is just a crushing expense as well.

Still doing better than 90+% of people out there but definitely not willing to take on a large new car/truck purchase.

100k income when I graduated in 2010 is now more like a 150k income. I look at the FICA wage cap, was 106k in 2010 its now 160k.

Speaking of classic cars, I've been "required" to drive my grandmother's 57 T-bird whenever I visit as she's not comfortable driving it herself. And she's not quite ready to let it go since my grandfather loved it so much. It's a cool and fun car to drive. But it's definitely a two handed driver as the steering box needs some work and it likes to wander at random times. Sometimes I wish I was more into it so I could take the step to buy it from her.

I think it's worse than that.

I'm basically making $20k more than I was 2 years ago and I'm barely putting away more money.

My wife is in the same boat, she is making around $30k more per year than a few years back and just last night she said "how can my paychecks be this big but I still feel like I'm on the edge of running out of money every month?"

For how close we are to $200k combined, and the only real bill we have is a $250k mortgage, it sure seems like we should be saving at least $7k per month.

It's tough.

Everything costs so much money these days. And don't get me started on a few things that really drive me crazy....

Registration tabs for our vehicles and property taxes.

The tabs are a scam, it should be a flat cost across the board. Why does someone with a newer vehicle have to pay 500+ dollars for tabs and my 20-30 year old car is 60 dollars?

Property tax? What does the city do for me to justify how much they charge for property taxes? We had our basement completely redone 5+ years ago. A building permit is a requirement...why? So they can try to come back and do an assessment on our house, just to raise our property taxes even more! I never let them inside to look either. They actually stop by the house and ask..

And why does my property taxes for the shop cost 2k a year? Because it's in a commercial area? It cost more than the house.

Sorry to rant, it's just pisses me off and nothing any of us can do about it.

Edit: And the cobra is 20 years old this year. I'm putting collector plates on it, they take enough money from me...

Someone is selling this one locally. Beautiful car but damn $30k
Check out this item on OfferUp. https://offerup.co/pbxKqFsMrxb

Nice car, almost bought a white one just like that (brand new), right before I bought my Capri (which was loaded for less money than the Stang).

For 30 grand, in my mind, better have full power options. Again, 30 grand and not one interior pic? And there is ZERO excuse now to run stock 7" wide 10 holes, with a big DR, when you can buy new 15 x 9's. I just swapped over recently on my Capri.

Import one yourself

Its not like they're cheap to get in Japan, they're not stupid. They know prices on a lot of this stuff has gone up and adjust accordingly for the export market. Sure you could possibly save a little on the shipping/import cost, but the car itself won't really be cheaper unless you have wholesale auction access.

This is a dealer I've followed in Japan for a few years, its been entertaining/depressing watching prices on stuff shoot up. Back when I went to Japan in 2018 I saw a Evo 4 parked in a parking lot with a for sale sign, about 4500 USD. That same car is pushing upper 20's low 30's now.

100%, i watch a lot of YouTube car vloggers , and they inevitably spend time in Japan. Even they said the market is getting crazy, 4-5000 R32s over there are now $25k+ EASY. In Japan.

A while back @u1cobra actually told me that theft of domestic enthusiast cars is on the rise because people are stealing them to export for profit.
