That's quite a nice package. Gotta love torque, and this one has it! Coupled with a combined 24-25 mpg. I can see why he said if he bought a Gladiator that this engine would be his only choice.

Hopefully not the 3.0L "Powerstroke"... A fresh 4cyl turbo Diesel design please! Or contract Cummins for a private label engine.
Is that motor a dud? You'd think Ford could build a bullet-proof small diesel engine. Yep, something like a 2.4 liter turbo diesel to jam in anything and everything Ranger size and smaller.

Ford has a newer 2.0L diesel in the Ranger overseas.

The Cummins R2.8 is made in China.

The 3.0 Powerstroke is fine for the most part. My biggest gripe is it having a timing belt. At least it doesn't have a belt driven oil pump which requires the trans to be pulled every 100,000 mile for service like the 3.0L Duramax.

The 3.2L I-5 Powerstroke was a good engine, but the emissions system on them was notoriously buggy in US-trim.

It's a shared engine from land rover over in Europe. Cams driven by timing belt, not as much power or fuel economy as Chrysler's EcoDiesel. Definitely feels like Ford only offering it to attempt to attract Ram customers. Ford is so heavily invested in EcoBoost gas, but I think there is a market for a 4cylinder Diesel.

In the current emissions environment, diesel makes no sense in comparison to EcoBoost.

Meh, timing belt I can handle....
