I had a bad ass stepside, but it wasn't the L.

I loved that truck. Only thing I hated was the leather.

I’ve thought of that.

V6 Ford Stepside + Coyote and A6

Even without. Blower the truck would be a nice ride.

Lightning. its the best all around truck. the biggest knock on the Ram is the shear size of it. My neighbor has a 12 Super crew silverado with a mild lift. when are truck are out in front of our hoses my L looks like a ranger.

the L is the perfect size, i can still use it for house projects, but its small enough to toss around. you just have to remember the L comes from a bygone era, a tuned EB truck is going to give 95% of the Ls around a hard time on the street. everything is just so powerful these days. shoot the new 18 F150s with the 5.0 are like 5.3 to 60 or something and high 13s@104+. thats rolling for a stock truck.

Lightnings are special, there is something about them. they drive different, the power delivery, the smell of the seats...the are special. look how many posts in this thread about regretting selling their Ls. ive had my truck a little over two years and i have had probably 7 or 8 offers to sell it. including passers by seeing it in my garage, which makes me feel uneasy.

Get a L, do similar mods to mine and enjoy it. accept that without a 12K investment your not going to be out running much. my truck is quick enough to be fun, but i don't even try to mess with anyone, well 2v mustangs are kinda my favorite car to harass.

You also have to remember the best you'll probably do with a SRT is about 6-8 MPG city and about 12-14 highway, where as I done about 13-15 city and 22-24 highway with my 2002 Lightning. That is a big difference right there, and also why the SRT has depreciated like a rock from their low 50,000 starting price to $13-18,000 dollars now. Lightnings still bring upper teens $15-19,000. My only real complaint about my L was due to the regular cab you couldn't put the seat back to stretch out the legs if you wanted to, other than that everything else was good on it.

da hell? 24mpg in a lightning? Either your math is wrong are you are completely delusional. These trucks have steam roller tires, short gearing and an inefficient heat pump sitting on top of an iron block dinosaur 2v engine with poor breathing heads. In my experience a lightning needs the grace of God to even crack 18mpg at highway speeds.

And driving 65-70 MPH you can yield 22-24 MPG with it anything faster and it'll suffer anything below 60 and it suffers but I was able to go from about Canton Oh to just a little shy of 37 miles of the Tenn border on 1 tank with mine doing the above 65-70 MPH speed. Of course the tank was also packed tight but if you don't ram the gas pedal through the floorboard all the time these trucks can surprise you from time to time.

unless the trip was all downhill in a strong tailwind i have serious doubts. Even a stock 4.6L NA f150 from that same vintage won't get anywhere near that mileage.

I agree it is nicer to have a smaller truck. I had a V10 F250 LB and that thing was impossible to park haha. The L seems great for towing small loads. As far as the power I know they aren't the fastest of the bunch but I don't care. I have the Viper if I want my speed fix haha.

I could see a L getting 20-22 mpg on the highway at 65. My 02 5.4 could easily get 20 mpg.

Before all premium gas became e10 I could eek out 22-23 in the '04 lightning (port polished eaton, 6# lower PSP dyno tune) so long as the wind wasn't blowing. Dropped to about 20 with ethanolated fuels. the 8.1 to 1 compression hurts when you are not adding a bit of boost.
Still miss that truck... Timeless looks (love flare-side single cabs- they are extinct now) and just plain fun, but can still pull its own weight.

So yall are telling me a Lightning got better gas mileage than my automatic 4.6 GT? Yep not gonna believe that at all.

per the EPA ratings, the 2004 L is only rated for 11/15 city/highway mileage. Is it possible to exceed the rating, sure but anyone buying a lightning with fuel mileage as a consideration is an idiot.

Even with 4.10 gears, my 2011 GT500 gets 20mpg highway. While it wasn't a consideration when I bought the car, Ill take that mpg all day long if I can lol

I got 16 once going about 60 mph for the tank in my 03. 24 is not real.

edit: I just saw rating at 17 hwy. I don't think even 20 mpg is possible.

Either way, nobody buys a truck to save gas LOL. Let alone a supercharged motor.
