"But at the last big show there was a guy that spent at least 2 hours staring at every inch of the car and making me an offer that I couldn't believe.
Any normal person would have taken the money and passed on the keys right there but I said no. He increased his offer, I still said no."

I hope you at least took his name and phone number just in case you changed your mind, which it seems like you might be.

It would depend on the car and how much I could get for it. I probably won't get rid of my 01 bullitt as I really enjoy the car, but its also not worth a ton.

A 1996 Cobra was my first car in high school that I owned from 2009 to 2015. My uncle owned it from 2003 to 2009 when I bought it from him and I regret trading it on a 07 GT every day lol. I traded that one on my current 2014 5.0 but neither will replace that Cobra. I had a so many memories in it.

The crazy thing is, it's really been on my mind lately to the point that I've been having dreams about it and telling my friends I wish I could just see it, as I had lost contact with the new owner that purchased it in '15. Been a year since I even saw him with the car locally so I was always worried he blew it up or totaled it. Well out of no where a few weeks ago, on a 30 mile trip to the local drag strip, I see the Cobra at a gas station filling up with a new owner. So I swing in real fast to talk to him and he turns out to be the brother of another coyote friend I have that just bought the car from the last guy.

He was really cool and let me run over everything I did to the car for him then even tossed me the keys and let me drive it again. I couldn't thank him enough as it was probably the happiest I've ever been lol as pathetic as that sounds. Now we text back and forth pretty often about his plans for the car and I just hope that one day I'll get to own it again

I miss my '66 GT coupe quite a bit. It was a totally rust-free San Jose original sheet metal car with C4, console, steel styled wheels, power steering and factory A/C. The underside was as clean as the top. Emberglo with parchment interior. She was gorgeous. But I bought her right, we enjoyed her for 10+ years, and more than doubled our money. I sold it and my '94 Cobra (347 and tons of upgrades ) to buy my '14 brand new. No regrets but I do miss that one.

I did not at the show, but knowing he has a supercharged 02 Saleen made it quite easy to find him through the Saleens previous owner. So now I do have name and number just in case.

If he offered you enough to buy and build a 17 GT, and he was serious, I'd be taking it and running. It isn't worth 35-40k plus build money....

I sold my 00 GT after 12 years of owning it. Put who knows how many hours and money into it. But I just didn't drive it anymore and only had two garage spots.

I miss it from time to time, and I admit I shed a tear leaving the lot that day, but in reality I probably would still be putting 2000 or less miles on a year etc. At least I can enjoy my DD every day.

Just curious if you guys and gals have ever sold long owned cars that were kinda like family.
Bought my GT new in 2003 and have spent an endless amount of money, frustration, blood, sweat and tears throughout the years modding it. And while it runs as good as ever, it is still slow and just not comparable to modern cars.
I met the love of my life thanks to this car and had so much fun with it and still have.
But still wonder if it is time to let go and get something newer and faster.

Have you ever been in this situation and what did you decide? If you sold it, did you ever regret it?

lets hear your thoughts!
thanks
Ana

You've been through a lot with this mustang and the motors and other problems with stateside builds, tunes and shipping. I'm quite surprised l, impressed, that you have kept it and are actually having fun with it. I see the big schropp sticker and interesting enough I've been to their shop for a Tony G tune day.

I've owned my 2000 Mustang since 2002 and just can't find myself selling it unless I got a real reasonable offer with cash in hand for a reliable 600hp 2 valve. If I didn't get something to replace it with something that I loved, I would regret it for sure.

Living overseas and getting an offer to get you a brand new Mustang with upgrades is quite the offer.

First car I bought was a 1968 maroon mustang coupe, 289 V-8 total stock & it was my birth year. I completely restored inside & out, hand wet sanded, did everything myself except paint job-Imron airplane ️ paint deep maroon w/tiny flake, new everything from engine & tranny to dash, upholstery& headliner all by myself & I had no experience, I did have the sweetest car in town but then I dropped out of OU & got my HVAC license in 92 & needed a truck. I held off till 96 & had my oldest daughter in the oven & looked funny hauling ladders hanging out the trunk so w/pressure from my H.S. Sweetheart, then wife I did the unthinkable & traded on a POS new dodge truck. We were poor, no health Ins. & I was backed in a corner. I did the unthinkable & regret to this day. I only have pics & memories, I even lost my virginity in my 68! To this day I regret it as that car was my muse. I can't tell u what to do but I do love my 2007 GT/CS & 2011 5.0 & I'll never be attached to any car like my first 68 stang, well maybe the new GT 350R but I say if ur doing due to circumstance or need money then u gotta do what u gotta do but if not, keep ur baby. I payed $2k back in 85 for my 68 & spent another $10k over 10 years & she'd be worth at least $60k today easy had I put her in storage. Hindsight is 20/20 but memories are forever. Good luck on ur decision!

I have bought and sold many good cars over the years and one thing that i keep in mind is, a car is like a girl friend, it might take a little while but you will fall for another one.
One that has stayed around for a while is a 1980 CJ5 Jeep. I have owned it since 1980. Still original, and if she could talk.... well you get the picture.
Do you want to buy it???

Did it twice. Had a 1970 fastback in high school. Got it when I was 16 and put a ton of work into it. Eventually I got into late models and lost interest in the classic. Sold it when I was 28.

Then there was my 01 Cobra. Had that one a little over 9 years. Tons of work, time, and money in that one. But it seemed to spend more time on jack stands than on the road. I miss it sometimes, but it went to a good home. And I like my 04.

I cried when I sold my 92 Dodge Stealth TT right before I left for college but I knew college would RUIN that car and I didn't have the means to just keep it and let it sit. Watching that thing load up on the trailer was rough. My dream car and I busted my ass to get that thing by the time I was 18.

After that every sale was a little easier. My only word of advice is to sample a lot of different cars, don't let one you have an affinity for hold you back from enjoying something new.

I sold me 2002 GT a couple years back that I put a ton of time and money into it and I miss it almost every day. I would buy it back in a heartbeat until I learned the next owner blew it up
