I have both. The 1 series is pretty water resistant and would have survived that baptism. All L lenses (the high dollar white ones with the red ring on the end, have several of those too) have rubber seals on the camera end. The 5 series is not very waterproof and the camera would have died, not too certain if the CF would survive. A pro wedding shooter would have a 1Ds Mark III ($9,000) or a 5D Mark II ($2500). The $9000 camera would be fine, the $2500 camera would be toast. You get what you pay for.
