you beat me to it, I was looking into the new NT05R 285/40/18 but I don't think there is a good NT05 tire size for the front unless you want to keep the same height but narrow 255/45

I'd like a 275/40 up front IMO

Hey guys... well per the previous thread we had going... here are some quick pics with the camera phone... of the new 305/40/18 Nitto 555R Drag Radials.

When I saw them on this other guys GT500, too me... they were the perfect fit... but let me know your thoughts... not to 'low' like the 35 series... and not to tall like the 45 series. They are about 1/4" taller than OEM when side by side, maybe 3/8".

If there are any other angles you'd like to see, let me know.

Peace,

I have been looking at those also; but I am considering getting the FRPP SVT Handling Pack which lowers the car. I would think for that application 305/35/18's would be better.

I would go with the 40's. The 35's are shorter than the stock setup, so visually you will have smaller tires on the back than the front. Secondly, if you are on stock rims, the shorter tires will bulge more since they are slightly out of spec for a 9.5 rim. Taller sidewalls on the 40's provide more sidewall to spread that bulge, and you really want more sidewall on DR's anyway. Pics of my 305/40s below.... I will get the FRPP suspension in the Spring.

Anyone been to the dragstrip with this tire (305/40/18) ? If so, curious of the 60' times...

EDIT: I see 1.77, 60'.....Anyone else?

These 40s still look a tad tall to me. Still the best fit for DR on the stock rims I guess. Would a 295/40/18 not have the bulge or the stuffed on look? Maybe its the slick sidewall of the Nittos make it appear more stuffed on??

Wow those are amazing DR's. I will deffinatly be picking these up in the spring/summer time. I was deadset on getting the FRPP handling package. But man those eibach pro's look SLIGHTLY lower without being slammed. Wonder if the FRPP shocks/struts will hold up to the eibach pro's?

Dave and 500 snake, cars look sexy!!

305's are a bit tall, but I am not sure you will find a Street DR in 295/40/18, and I like the raked-wider look (it is all about trade-offs). I drive on the street with the 305's. Dropping my car by 2 inches in the back and 1 inch in the front will fix a lot of sins. See tire heights below..... 295's would be a better fit, but not be as wide.

Stock GT500 Diameter 285/40/18 = 26.97in
295/40 = 27.29in (what street DRs are in this size?)
305/40 = 27.60in
305/35 = 26.40in

Those look FATTTTTT

That's Phattttt to you......

Im assuming in these pics the car is still at stock height? If so thats a n ice look.. I think thats the look Im going for. to bad the NITTO 05R rent available in 305/40's... I think your set up and a pair of J&M non adjustable UCA's and I should be good... for now ;)

Yes, it is stock suspension. I like the look, but want to firm up the handling a tad.

That is the sweet spot!
Looks wise. A tad taller than stock.
As far as DR that size..........:bored:
My MT 305/35/18s still dont look too bad (short) to hook so good and look stock.
I need a good 295/40/18 street tire with matching font. Sorry for hijack :smmon:

305.40.18 are the best of the 305's (35/40/18) imo. i cant really tell from the shots but i always thought that the 305.40.18 would be fine on the stock 18x9.5 wheel. i run them on widened stock 18x11's and they sit almost flush with the wheel. i personally like a little bulge.
