C&D trapped 121mph in an SMG M6 and 118mph in an SMG M5.

I question that trap because that's a speed that no one else has been able to get close to in the real world. For the record, I trust C&D about as far as I can throw them.

If you go to m5board.com I've seen video of the old M5's running 12.80 bone stock. Mods and a good tune and they are low 12's high 11's. I'm not sure about the V10 M5s though.

Frankly - I think it is pretty cool that our Cobras that are now 5 years old can outrun or at least give a run to BMW's flagship M5.........with some simple bolt-on mods.

Just like most guys on here - I am biased of course. I changed the oil in mine yesterday and for some reason had some new appreciation for what the car was in 03 and continues to be today.

Im the owner of the M5 in the video i have ran a 12.44 115 with one 13.5w7 good size box. took other subs out it does have exhaust also for the 12.44. Also was on stock contitact 2 run flats. I will be getting a tune and just got my new tires but will run again with just new tires and sub out maybe tonight. The 12.44 is not on video did not know someone even recorded this run.

12.6-12.8 is are their times usually. Low 12s?.....not likely.
+1 lots of myths about those cars. 500 HP mode only nets them about 430 to the wheels and about 310 w torque. People tend to chit themselves about the 500 hp M Mode but the true beauty of those cars is the transmission that lets them take such little torque and get them moving. They do have a launch mode that when well driven is very significant compared to the standard launch. You will find the low 12 second ones reported are probably chipped/tuned which can get them to 480/380 pretty quick.

As to the top end, governed they cut off around 150-155. Ungoverned they are reported to have gone over 200. My experience though is that from 150 on they are not pulling as much as just gathering momentum. I was pretty well able to pull from 4-5 lengths behind one starting at 150, evened with him at 165 and pulled several lengths to 175. No doubt his ride was smoother than mine and he may have been able to go well over 200, I suppose VW beetles geared right and with enough road could get there, but the pull up top was not strong. My Pontiac was about to come apart at those speeds.

On the video that is posted, keep in mind Biloxi is near sea level. We have a chipped and geared, exhaust, and race gas tuned M5 in the DFW area that was only making 8.1 1/8 mile passes with a DA around 3000 ft.

Just my opinion guys, not trying to be argumentive. 03/04 term with 430 or better to the wheels should flat out destroy one, unless he is chipped or tuned.

What is so hard to believe about a 7spd SMG car with 500hp trapping 121mph? Z-06s have been in the 125-128 range.

C&D is probably the most reputable magazine with fully disclosed testing procedures and spot-on for 99% of the cars and owner's results under good conditions without any drag prep or powershifting.

As a 2008 BMW M5 former owner, here's some things to consider.

1. M5 with SMG shifts far faster than most drivers.
2. M5 can take off the line with no problems(traction, especially around the corners).
3. High RPM limit.

A mildly modded Cobra could take the M5 top end.

I agree stock they will get beat even most tuned m5 will be beat. I just enjoy the ride quality i have other cars for racing just like knowing that im not the slow one out in the daily driver. Ill probably get the evosport gears also the knock about two tenths off quarter times.

Z06's also weigh about 900lbs less with a better drag co-efficiency......I'm in the dark as to why a Z06 is brought in to this equasion anyway:shrug:

m6 does not in anyway trap in the 120's, atleast in the quarter, give em more space and yes, it has the same v10 pos the m5 has, and they are absolutely pitiful on the lowend. I hate em, they run mid 12's, you should have this guy, just don't run on a highway roll, he will eat you then

This guy knows I know that hes car can go well over 150mph but this race will be from a dig maybe also a roll but a slow roll like 20-30mph.

Because they are both 500hp, 120mph+ trap speed cars but superior gearing and faster shifting for the M6.

800lbs on a good day. .34 cd vs. .32 for the M6 - which is insignificant when talking about trap speeds for these cars, even taking into consideration frontal area.
