JM,
Is there any chance they could bring the car to Texas World Speedway the last weekend in March for the SVTOA - Team Shelby event. It would be great to see on this track as it is so fast at TWS. There is also a demo race on Sunday that it could compete in. Should be a blast.

Joe,

I sincerely doubt it. We have such a great selection of tracks on the East Coast..... we rarely venture inland. Our home track is Watkins Glen, so its hard for us to go elsewhere with the bestus in our back yard. This car is blindingly fast and effortless to drive with power steering and the clutchless shifts. I got to thrash it for 2 days at The Glen and it just sticks like glue.

Here is a copy of a message I sent broadcast style to all of the people I have email addresses for. It's additional information for the SCMC event along with information for the event just prior that just happens to be two days of full course! :pepper:

Greetings Track Dawgz!!

I hope this message finds you all well?

As you can see, I'm sending this message to a LOT of people in case there is any interest in attending these most awesome events at the most thrilling racetrack in the Continental United States!! For those of you that don't know, SCMC is a great Club and VIR is the crème's de la crème's when it come to tracks. The SCMC event is an instructed driving school event and they have full course on Friday with South Course on Saturday and Sunday.

Here is a link to the SCMC message board for the event in case anyone needs it:

I know some of you NASA racers will be going to MAM that weekend but I just wanted to include you in the communication so you wouldn't feel left out! ;o)

After getting off the phone with Mike Moran a little earlier this evening, I mentioned the TZC/THSCC Triangle Z Tarr Heels Sports Car Club event which is just prior to the SCMC event. He was not aware of it because he's not an internet message board dweller like I am! (ok, more like a junkie, LOL) That event is May 28 & 29 the two prior days before the SCMC event. Both of their track days are full course! For those of you that have never made the drive to VIR, it's a PITA to put it mildly. But once you're there, you won't want to leave! I guarantee it! Here is a link to the event prior to the SCMC event in case you're interested:

I'm not sure if they would do a single day like Mike asked. You'd have to inquire.

Camping will be available at the track for both events. I think the fee is $25.00 but I'm not positive. I have a good memory, it's just short!(

So if anyone has any questions I'd be glad to answer them if I can. If I can't, I can hopefully point you into a direction to someone that can.

Bruce

Bruce, your NASA dates are a bit confused. MAM is June 28-29.

Fred:

I though you told me you guys couldn't come to VIR because of the MAM NASA event?

After going to the Midwest NASA forum, I find no thread for a schedule? Can you supply a schedule linky?

Thanks,

:-D

You are right that I can't make VIR - but that is because of my son's graduation May 28th plus the state track meet is May 30-31 (I have a gut feeling he and his friends can qualify for it this year).

Oh, ok! We talked about so much stuff that night I must have confused the reason why you couldn't make it?

Brian, thanks for the link!

Bruce,
I found the registration form for the event prior to the SCMC event:
http://www.motorsportreg.com/calendar/event.cfm?uidEvent=1D747492-FBD7-A549-CD14C33300B0CE44
It the registration for the VIR full course. I noticed that they have a TT (time trail) event. I'll be darn if I can find the price for it?

The only thing they mention is the student charge:
Student entry: $350
Optional Time Trial (one day/both days): $20 / $30
But what if a guy just wants to do the TT on both days? I know it isn't just $60. :-D

Doc, I don't want to speak for the Club but IMO that is in ADDITION to the student track fees. Drop them a note if you're planning on donig the TT and see what they say. :-D

how many are doing the wed-thurs event?

Ken, I'll be there. VIR is such a long haul and PITA for me to get to I just didn't want to haul all of that way for one day of Full course. :whine:

Unfortunately not me......

Mark, you will be at the SCMC event, correct?

I will definitely be at the SCMC event and then the Watkins Glen event right after.

Anyone up for a Cobra R BBQ on Friday night?

Let's not BBQ any more R's. :read::idea:

;-):poke::p

However, if it involves hanging around the paddock and burning food on a grill, I'm in!:coolman::beer:

Where are you guys grilling? We have rented Casa Cranky (yet again) just a mile or two from the track. Not sure what our plans are for culinary dee-lites in the area, but we may be swayed.

I hate eating other people's food, drinking and making an ass of myself.

Bruce,

Are you bringing the taush-ma-hauler? If so I volunteer your grille the official hangout and all participants bring their own food. Would be a great way to end the day!!!

count me in for the BBQ, either at the track, or at Casa Cranky....lets put a menu (a whos bringing what list) together! I'll bring an assortment of keilbasa, brats, wursts, etc, from the local butcher shop, excellent stuff! and some rolls, too....

I just called Stacy. You are correct. You can't do the TT without running in one of the DE groups.

Stacy is as nice as he could be. He was at work and took the time to explain the whole event. He indicated that each DE group with get three 30 minute sessions each day. They will time a few of your laps (from your transponder) in the groups and then classify you in the TT events according to your lap times. The TT sessions will be approximately 15 minutes long (one a day, I think he said).

He is going to email me some additional information.

It sounds like fun to me. I am going to see if VIR has any rooms available.

He stated a strict rule about waiting for a point before passing (in DE, I assume not in TT). Are people good about doing this? Do they stay on-the-line so you know where they are going?

I'd suggest a little competition during the TT event. Of course, it would need to be an "index of Performance" type of event (since we all know the '00R has a huge performance advantage). I suggest it should be based on the year model. A 1965 car would get a 35 second "handicap". A 1995 R would get a 5 second handicap, and a 1993 would get 7 seconds. :read:
