So I was looking for a F250 here lately and I found one at a dealership. But after getting a lot of run around I back out of the deal, also I will NEVER be using that dealership again.

I found one in the price range and area where I live but I have a few things to ask, for guys on here that know something about these F250's.

All the ones I have found have over 100k on them, is that bad?

Is the 6.8 liter a good motor?

What is the m/p/g on this things?

How well will a F250 pull a 03 cobra and trailer?

If you want I can post a link to the dealership so you guys can tell me what you think, if that helps.

Thanks

f-250 will tow the trailer great. Going superduty, might as well go diesel if you can afford it. I would probably go with the 5.4 before I would the v-10 personally. Better mpg, and I don't think the power offsets it that much. 100k mile mark auto transmissions and balljoints/wheelbearing(sealed bearing) is normal wear. I did balljoints on mine at 130k There are alot of high milage superdutys out there (300k+) so the chassis is proven. You also mentioned aggieville, might take the 500 mile trip to the front range to look at pickups, you would be amazed at the difference in markets between KC and Denver.

The V10 is perfect for most people. They are also known for high mileage (pushing 300K) in fleet service).

Expect 12-14mpg empty; 7-11 towing depending on load.

The later 7.3 diesels are great; but the 6.0's are generally problem prone. IF you want a diesel only buy an 05+; stay away from the 03/4 6.0 trucks...there have been a LOT of revions...

I suggest the 3v V10 over all other engines unless you are going to be running a lot of towing miles or driving a lot in the truck. The only exception to this would be the 7.3L PS. What model year trucks are you looking at?

Run an oasis report, and I know of SEVERAL people happy with there pre-05 6.0. By now I wouldn't be afraid of an earlier 6.0 depending on the pickup. You must have way better experinece than I have with the V-10, as your mpg calculations seem pretty generous. One of my good friends dad owns a ranch and had a 00 v-10 that laid down at 240k miles and all of the area ford dealerships were shocked that it went as many miles as it did, that they hadn't seen one that went over 200k without help.

I've got two fleets I keep up with that run the V10's in their delivery vans.

Alternators and water pumps tend to go; but other than that...they've been dead reliable and they always go over 200k with 'em with quite a few pushing the 3 mark.

My MPG basis was on my observation from a friend's truck (F250; 4x4; extended cab; short bed) and another (regular cab; 4x4; long bed).

Those mileage numbers seem about right. Keep in mind that the 00 v10 was the non-PI version with 275hp. The 3v version makes 362hp. The 5.4 will only get about 1 more mpg and not tow nearly as well.

It depends on how much you want to spend and what you're looking for. The 05-up v10s have 3v heads and the new front suspension.

Well being in the army I'm not wanting to spend a year pay for a truck. I would like to stay under 15K. I don't really care about the body, just that I can pull my car and have a nice DD.

I know this is way out of your budget but Long Lewis Ford in Hoover Al. was selling new ones at invoice a fwe months ago. I'm pretty sure they still are. I figured one up with diesel,4x4,extended cab, cloth seats and would have come in around 37-38,000. A friend bought a stripped F350 crewcab and no bed for $27,000 I think. He then went and built himself a flat bed with a headache rack. I also read Ford shut down the F250 and up assembly line for 2 weeks due to lack of orders and the bad housing market. You might could corner them up on a great deal.

I wish I could buy something that new. I only have about a 15k to play with, so thats why I'm in the older ones.

I'm thinking of going and getting that 99 F250 this weekend. (first link)

you can pick up a 7.3psd for the price you are looking to spend. it will have over 100k on it but like they said run an oasis report. I had 3 7.3psd and ran the living sh*t out of them. the one i got now just broke 100k and i bought it for 20k a year ago with 65k on her. I wouldn't wast my time with a gas motor in the superduty. Now the 6.0 gas motor in gm's truck is great. I also run a few of these, no problems at all. And the 6.0 gas has more power and better fuel economy then the fords. thats what i have seen first hand running a small fleet.

true the gm v8 wont keep up with the ford v10 towing. but the v10 wont keep up with a psd towing. and the gm 6.0 will out work a ford 5.4. But for what he is looking to tow any motor will do just fine. a cobra on a trailer is what 5k-6k. so even a half ton will work. I use my diesel to tow 12.5k-15k on avg and at that weight you find out real quick if the truck can handle it. And my gm service body's weight in at 8k-9k and with the work truck package with 4.10 and a 6.0 gas are a great combo and get 8-12mpg. I use to be a die hard ford truck guy but after running work trucks from other mfg, i must say the gm's are put together well and have better interiors. i would run cummins if i could stand the dodge truck. just my .02:beer:
