I just like all performance cars. I don't care who makes it. If it has good numbers and a price that seems worth it to me, that is what I buy. I paid 28K for my cobra off of the showroom floor. I would not have paid a penny more for it at the time because to me for the performance it was not worth more than 28K. Same goes for a vette or GT500, or Ford GT I have in my mind what I think it is worth. Once they hit that point and I decide to buy it, I will buy it. I am not driven by anything other than performance per dollar.

+1. I have no brand loyalty, just want the most for my $.

ON D BIT, if HE wants a C6 Vette, isn't THAT the only person that matters?? Who cares how many "other people" want it?

True that the Vette (Z06) stacks up well performance wise to the GT, but a base C6 real world price is the same or less than a GT500, esp with ADM's factored in...despite being a very different type of performance car.

A GT500 with pulley/cai/tune (1K=100hp) will walk away from a stock C6. Plus many dont like the styling of a Vette or want to carry passengers with them. Yes the prices are the same and we all know that. I would prefer the Challenger over a regular C6 myself.

Why come onto a GT500 vs Challenger thread and try to sell us on the Vette.

I know a guy that just put down 10k on a Challenger and he was told that was the price above MSRP. I am guessing that to mean that he still has to pay MSRP when the car arrives. He got the purple...

Do that guy a favor and tell him to check out the challenger forums. Buyers there left and right buying at MSRP. Save him 10K and maybe he'll give you a $50 gift cert to Red Lobster. Like others have mentioned, no purple in this first run. Black, Silver, and Orange only.

I have been debating on a Camaro. I do know that my next car will be NA. So it willeither be a Luxury car, A camaro, A vette, or a Challenger. I have for sure made my mind up about that. Or, if the BOSS is all that it is cracked up to be, and NA, then it may be that.

Not trying to sell anyone on anything....just mentioned that while the GT500 may look less portly next to a Challenger...that still doesn't excuse it from being a couple hundred pounds overweight....when you're talking about a $27,000 Mustang, the weight is excusable. When prices start nudging $45-50k, weight matters in a performance vehicle. You can always add power, and if you don't care about cornering prowess or fuel economy, by all means, buy one of these two.

The superiority of the Corvette chassis is undeniable, and the price is in the ballpark. But you're right, many need room for two kids/amputees, and the Vette doesn't cut it!

Sorry, wasn't trying to start another Vette bashing fest. Back on topic!

You're probably right....but the Vette is no slouch in a straight line either. We're not talking about a Miata or Elise....the '08 base Vette with just a few bolt ons is an easy 11 sec car, even with "only" 400ish rwhp...and will outpull the Mopars and Mustangs on the highway thanks to far superior aerodynamics. It'll easily do 190+, if that matters.

All the vette nutswingers listen up. As a Ford fan I'm flattered that you compare our Shelby with your Vette. Your 2 seat sports car vs our Muscle Car that can seat 4. But enough is enough. Its been beaten to death. Every time GT500 is mentioned some tool has to interject:

"yeah but the vette...blah, blah, blah"

THE GT500 IS NOT DESIGNED TO COMPETE AGAINST YOU. GO AWAY!

Jeff:

I think everyone thinks that to a certain degree. But what I personally find entertaining is being able to be competitive on track with people who have spent two, four or six times what my equipment is worth.

Imagine a 600 RWHP Fox Body Mustang with a total investment of say $30,000 mopping up on Vipers and C6-Z06's that cost two and three times as much. No Doubt it's entertaining at the track but cruising around on the streets in that thing would be a seriously painful exercise.

On a road course it's not a lot different. A guy can easily put together a $35,000 Mustang to whoop up on the same Viper and C6-Z06 listed above. But at the end of the day you're going to load this extreme Mustang into a trailer and haul it home while the other two drive home in air conditioned comfort.

I guess it's all i what you want. But whooping up on cars that cost a lot with something you threw together will always be regarded as entertainment in my book! :read:

C'mon ac427...you can always add a/c and skip the rock hard springs and poly bushings....your Fox can ride on home in comfort just like the big boys. My Griggs 91 LX notch 331TT with ABS sure does!

I'll get it on the scales soon. Just breaking in the new R302 based motor and T56 (more weight there too). Bet it's still lighter than an SN95, or esp an S197. Weighed 3150 stock.

*cough cough*

Aston Martin DB9 3880
Audi S5 3891
Bentley Continental GT 5258
BMW M6 3909
Bugatti Veyron 4162
Dodge Viper 3410
Ferrari 599 3722
Ford GT 3450
Ford Shelby GT500 3920
Jaguar XKR 3814
Mercedes SLR 3897
Merc SL65 4564
Nissan GTR 3836

What about when prices nudge from 45-50k to 100k-500k? ;-)

If an M6 or SLR or 599 is in the same weight class....

Either one will put a smile on your face when you punch it, though.

I have a 2 door 2 seater with a large trunk, but it still is not in the same class as a Mustang or Vette. Keep in mind you're also comparing a base vette to a top of the line Mustang. Could Ford build a Vette fighter? I think it's already proven that quite well, but that's not what a Mustang is.

I am not driven by anything other than performance per dollar.

How much perofrmance did that spiffy new paint job add?:poke:
