Just proposed on 2/21 (her birthday) after 8.5 years together. I was the guy who always said he'd never get married, but here I am. I don't think I need to explain the "why" to any of you since most of you have gone down the same road. lol $8k on the ring and so far all her pals have drooled over it. A couple even said it makes their rings look like shit. It can be upgraded, but honestly she's pretty small so a rock any bigger would look gaudy on her finger IMO, hence why I chose the one I did.

I find myself laughing inside about this whole engagement process. The guy has all the pressure trying to pick out the right ring. Then he spends a bunch of cash on said ring. Then he has to come up with a proposal plan and execute it, knowing he'll be subject to ridicule if the plan is cheesy (big thanks to modern society/women/social media & the resulting expectations). Then, assuming it all goes successfully, within 5min post proposal, he's in the shadows as if he hasn't been 99% responsible for the engagement in the first place. On top of that, people start dropping off engagement gifts for the bride, but many of them have my last name or initial on them. WTF? That's still my name, not hers yet. lol At least bring me a case of beer along with whatever stupid girly shit you brought for her...with my name on it. She thinks I'm butthurt about that when honestly I just think it's ironic. After all, I don't want a pint glass that says "Future Groom" or some dumb crap on it.

Sorry to further the derail. Carry on.

I will say what ****ing sucks is... so in my city I have some " fame" ( can't think of any other word)

I do a lot for the community in forms of event throwing, marketing, promotion.. etc.. I also do a podcast that a lot of people in my community have offered to be on.

Even my logo was my beard ( its like a foot long) so a lot of people know me.

So my shit was done in front of like 75 people.

The worst part is recently I've gone out in public now that we've broken up

" Jared when is the big day"

" Jared where is she yall are never apart"

**** people public about any shit anymore

Naive. You just wanted to be the best that you could be and make that woman extremely happy. Now you have figured out that the ring itself is not the way to do it.

I filed for divorce after 8 months...wanted to do it after 3, but did counseling etc. Couldn't stand her. Divorce is expensive...but it was worth every penny.

Yep. I also learned to “hard” way about spending too much on a ring (not quite to your scale). If there is ever a next one, it will not be several thousands. $1-2K tops.

Crazy how they change.

Mine went from sex all the time. Ring hit the finger.... Bam. Once a week, unless she got drunk

That.

And finding out she was on several anti depressants...completely dependent on her parents at 30. Both of which were hidden from me until day 4 of marriage. She had her own house...but had never gone to the grocery store without her parents, or put gas in her car.

Damn boys... Reading all that^ makes me even more glad I waited so long. Full evaluation of this braud or at least as best I could. She's 9.5 years younger than me so I've watched her transition from an annoying 20-year old to someone more like me who bitches about taxes, kids these days, stupid people...etc. lol We've lived together for almost 5 years too so that's helped show me if she is a capable partner or a lazy slacker.

the ex definitely didn't hide her shit but 1) didn't quite realize the extent of it and 2) reminds of the bit about "its not the mountain that wears you down, its the pebble in your shoe". The same small-medium bullshit over and over and over until you just can't tolerate it anymore.

Hindsight's a bitch I guess

I want to say that’s real real similar to what I paid.

My mistake was that I wasn’t making 25,000 a year when I bought it. Thing was close to 1/3rd of my bring home for a year.

On second thought, better a third making 25,000 than a third making what I do now…

That whole 1/3 of a year of pay BS is what made me realize the last chick I was with, I wasn't going to marry her. She asked me how much I was making, and how much I was going to be making by the time I proposed. After some prodding she let me know she was ring shopping.

Dodged a bullet, not just financially, I don't speak poorly about any of my prior girlfriends aside from that one. People to this day continue to ask me what my problem was.

I will say what ****ing sucks is... so in my city I have some " fame" ( can't think of any other word)

Sorry Nick. She was lol.

I don't want to speak poorly on your ex, while I didn't know her particularly well, I like the current one A LOT more.

Yup. The " I want to do things" but wont get out of bed before 11am on a weekend.

The.. " I want to look better" but ate fast food daily

etc etc.. it was daily

Absolute nightmare fuel for me. I don't even like reading that shit.

I will say, seeing her facebook. You see who your real friends are. Everybody was my friend, when my marketing helped their business..... Now they are nowhere to be found.
