It's legit. Read the story about it a few weeks ago. I think a lawsuit against Hyundai has been made as well.

Such a dick move though. How petty do you have to be to want to ruin someone's day and force them to fork out thousands of dollars for something they didn't even know about and something so harmless? I don't care what laws are on the books, if I was a cop I couldn't do it. Those are cases where you could and should just inform the driver so they know to be careful or to get it fixed however they feel they need to.

It's top tier pathetic, that cop was definitely double teamed by male family members growing up

From what I have gathered, the "state ref" will run the car in normal mode (or stealth if it has it) and it will pass. He will pay the $100 for the test and after will get reimbursed for passing.

The car is carb legal in all modes.

Digging around, it appears there is a very specific cop that keeps writing citations for stock cars. The camaro guys are aware of him. Not sure if it's this guy.
