I asked elsewhere, and was told cost is the main issue. Seems the DR is the walmart of all inclusives for broke americans. No offense to anyone who likes it there. I shop at Walmart.
Plenty other places are cheaper.

Wow, I'm actually rather surprised the majority is saying no.
I find their sand is the best. lol
I like the place 3 years ago so we decided to go back.
The Money isn't a real issue. The pain in the ass of rebooking multiple couples to another resort elsewhere in 3 weeks is the issue.
We get a full room refund and the airline charges $150 each to change the flight. We just have to find a place that the airline services and that has places available last minute.
Personally I think they should be bending over backwards now to make sure nothing else goes wrong.
Plenty other places are cheaper.
Well first you have the Americans stereotype of scared to leave the US. The small exception is all inclusives where you don't see locals, there's no culture, others can't get in, and everyone speaks English. It lets them leave the country, see a nice beach, but also stay in a safety bubble. Now you have like 10 dead and countless cases of folks who felt fine and then had extreme flu symptoms. This has popped the bubble. Que up the "See, this is why I don't leave the US, we got everything I need right here" posts.
Aren't you the guy that didn't drive his nice car cuz you almost get killed weekly and can't sleep cuz yer worried about tomorrow and the next day and the next...?Wow, I'm actually rather surprised the majority is saying no.
You guys do drive cars... on the road... right?
It's like when the DC sniper situation was going on. 17 people were killed over a 7 month span. That same span claimed the lives of 18,700 on roadways in the US. Everyone avoided DC but still drove around like there's no risk. That's like not going outside because you might get struck by lightning, but playing Russian Roulette now and then.
Which headline gets your attention:
32,000 die each year in motor vehicle accidents
or
15 die in rabid shark-midget hybrid experiment gone wrong, says blind quadriplegic scientist
Don't let the news dictate your life- statistical anomalies make headlines and cause stirs.

I'm just going on what I was told. If you mean Mexico, I would first write that off as too scary for a lot of Americans. Cuba too. Americans want safety, someplace there's neighbor's cousin went for a honeymoon and said it was amazing....but also cheap.
What areas/islands would be cheaper?
I saw a travel blogger in the ABC islands and it was expensive as **** and looked like the bad parts of Mexico.
Wait, I am planning to meet him on this side. I don't want to see a corpse in a box. It's hard to play pranks on a dead guy; dead guys don't care, and their families get upset.Well Barry, it's been fun. See ya on the other side.
The guitars are mine. LolYou'll be fine OP. Just use the same caution you would in any other strange place.
Can I have your guitar btw?
Hard to say really. Since youve already paid and all. If i hadnt paid, I'd probably skip the DR. I dont think their accidental. Could be wrong. Could be a group of people targeting Americans at random.
