A co-worker hit my car today and took off, it’s on tape. What are your thoughts on how I should handle it? I’m afraid said knucklehead doesn’t have insurance on his mid 90s POS. I have uninsured motorist but don’t want money coming out of my pocket for something that wasn’t my fault.

My thoughts as it just happened.
1.Have the courtesy to tell someone, to come and notify me.
2. Fml
3. I am gonna go talk to the guy that hit my car and ask for insurance.

I feel like it’s going south quickly.
Initially Asked (calmly) if he hit my car. reply: durrr No. I asked again, same answer.
Then, I proceed to tell him he was on camera, etc. 18-20yr old punk begins to stutter says, I don’t think I hit it, nothing happened to my car..blah blah.
Says: I’m looking for insurance, my momma, blah blah. Ugh

He literally gives 2 shits about you or he never would have left. SCREW HIM.

And his car was backed up (next to) like mine. I can’t comprehend how he hit me.. probably leaving too fast idk. Beats me!
Big boss is involved so will see what happens.

I mean, you could always tell him to meet you at the flagpole at noon I suppose? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Or call the cops. That's what I would do once he didn't own up to it.

the damage value required to be a hit and run is pretty low, wouldnt take much to become a big deal

Tell him you're calling police if he can't handle it between the two of you

Since it happened on work property, see if your boss can mediate to prevent any animosity. Don't hide anything, just come right out and tell him that you know he hit your car, and that you need to work out a way to get it repaired. If he has any insurance at all, your uninsured insurance won't do anything- especially without a police report at the time of the incident (been there, unfortunately). That means, get a report done TODAY.

Do you have underinsured insurance? Sad that we even need it in this day and age, but I'm living proof that situations happen where not having underinsured coverage can nearly ruin you when one worthless asshole ruins your day.

Also, don't forget to pursue loss of value with the insurance company. After my wife's nasty car accident in April 2017, she got a brand new F150 (on our dime, after losses). 5 months later, some dolt crossed the line and whacked her head on in September 2017, causing front end damage to the F150. The other guy, who was actually insured sufficiently unlike the POS scumbag in April, had State Farm. SF not only covered all repairs, but also credited us an agreed upon cost degradation. They were so good to work with that we actually changed insurance to them after the incident.

I think you need to turn this guy in. Sure, the damage to your car is light but what if this guy went out and did some big time damage to someone? Or hurt someone bad. Him not having insurance will complicate an already bad situation.

Get a police report pronto! Dont wait and delay it only compounds the problem. If you know he did it, quit trying to get him to confess and tell him he hit your car, fix it via insurance, mommy and daddy, or whatever or you are going to take legal action immediately. Key point: the longer you wait the less the police will care to come take a report. You need one even if your insurance has to cover it. Situations like this can be uncomfortable but he is dissing you big time and needs to be made to man up and take care of your vehicle...bottom line.
