I'm about buy a used gt500 from a dealership (not ford).

Another member here pointed out on the car that the stripe is not hood - only on the front and rear bumper. is that normal or even an option? could someone have scraped off the stripe or is it possibly not the original hood?

anyone have any other words of wisdom they can share?

Stripe should be on the hood and deck lid. Never seen a partial delete. I would say the previous owner removed it. I would either remove all stripes or add the rest.

As I think about more, if the stripe is on the deck lid,but missing on the hood, was the car in an accident or the original hood damaged?

I looked from another angle, there are not any stripes on deck lid.

Also, car fax is clean but I’m not sure if it’s an original hood.

If you go thru Ford or Shelby it will be expensive. A guy I know had an 07 Vert with blue stripes and he needed to replace them. The one on the rear bumper was messed up. I can’t remember the exact price but it wasn’t cheap. Plus they only sell the kit not just for the hood but the whole car. Then you have labor if you can’t do it. Bottom line if your set in this one. I’d try to get some money off.

Yeah, something's weird about that. I would check and recheck the VIN and the Carfax a couple of times. lol
Good luck OP!

Owner probably removed them. If your thinking of adding the OEM stripe, dont go aftermarket unless your starting from scratch. I think the OEM stripe is the best quality wise, but would be expensive to do it right.

I wouldn't do anything other than OEM if it were me, regardless of cost.

Does the hood have the emissions sticker under the front? When you pop the hood there should be an emissions sticker, if not that could be a replacement hood.

As for the deck lid, if its not on the top, it could be that the previous owner tried to match the lacking stripes on the hood. And failed.

2 things realistically:

1. Get this car inspected at a Ford dealer by an SVT tech. Pay attention to the engine bay frame rails. Have the front engine bay cover (the big flat plastic panel closest to you when you pop the hood) removed. Make sure most of the radiator core support is painted a flat black. If its body color, most likely its been replaced.

2. If youre satisfied with the results of the inspection, they are simple, wide, flat black stripes. If they were the stripes from the SVT Performance pack with pinstriping on the outside from 2011-2012, yeah, go OEM. But its not hard to find a vendor with flat black stripe tape. Unless you like spending money.

Thats just my personal opinion. I had to make these decisions when my car got hit by a GTR on the track and I had to rebuild my front end. I used all Ford parts to rebuild it, but when they told me what my cost was on the strip kit I laughed. The parts guy laughed. We all laughed! And I proceeded to take the rest of the stripes off my car. Personally? No regrets at all. She looks ccclllleeeeaaannnnnn with no stripes. Of course, thats just me. Youll have to make your own decision about it if you decide to buy the car.

Did you pull an oasis report? I know all of my Shelbys had corrosion issues on the edges of the hood. I ended up having it repainted under warranty, maybe this car had that issue and the owner opted not to replace the stripes after the hood was repainted. If you want to replace the factory stripes check Autonation Ford of White Bear Lake, they sell the stripes individually. The stripes are expensive but it's worth it to know they will match what's already on the car.

I would want a good explanation on why the stripes aren't on the hood or trunk. If he didn't like them, he would have removed all of them. If they couldn't give a good reason, I would walk away. Plenty of good cars out there.

The car has had 2 owners and is at a dealer now. No clue when the stripes were removed.

Also, I noticed there are no stripes on the side.

This car is 38,900. Which is the best price I can find by far on a 13/14 convertible.

Good advice given by Lexustech48 and others. You also need to know that a clean Carfax or Oasis report doesn't guarantee the car was never in an accident. Those reporting services will ONLY be accurate if accidents/repairs were actually reported. It is not uncommon for a repair shop to not report the repair in order to ensure the resale value doesn't drop. My nephew once damaged his Mustang front end, and when he had the repairs done he told the repair shop to not report it. They didn't, and when he ultimately sold it, the Carfax was clean and he got top dollar as his Mustang was otherwise immaculate and low mileage. Just something to remember. It DOES happen, unfortunately.

The odd ball striping is just 1 reason to walk away from this deal.
The non stock wheels with no center caps would be reason # 2.
$ 38,900.00 may sound like a good price, but without lots of answers, you're just asking to be taken for a ride !!!
