I've been looking at old Cherokee XJ's because of the cost of a four door Wrangler.

A friend's brother has a Wrangler and loves it. Post pictures like the ones above. Heading out with a group like that and camping looks like a blast.

I'd buy another tomorrow if I could buy a new one. If only they had made a Rubicon version.

if you're gonna replace axles, which is very common, just go with the sport.

and the LS seems to be the more popular choice over the hemi, mainly because of the tranny...dreams for now, but maybe one day!

if i knew what i know now, i'd bought a high mileage JKU and just replaced damn near everything lol

If I was buying another one, it would be up until they became "refined." Was it the mid 00's? When I owned one it was no frills but it was highly capable. The 30/35 was able to handle a decent tire and even 30in tires made it into something practically unstoppable. Nowadays well over $30k for a "Wrangler" is a joke.

It's the cult following thing. My buddy bought one and apparently "it's a jeep thing" and I wouldn't understand it. But like you, OP, after evaluating the interior and soft top I really don't understand the pricing on it.

The main reason I see the prices making sense is an absolute lack of real competition. What else are you going to buy that compares?

I agree. No other manufacturer competes in their arena. Would like to see that happen.

I don’t see anyone with big enough balls to bring back a solid front axle , so until then...

I respect Jeeps for what they are. Mainly because my grandfather had a 197x Jeep that was pretty cool with a V8.

Nowadays, I run into too many Jeep owners that have a unique mentality. Since they have 33" or larger tires, they now feel they are the largest land vehicle in the world and drive as such. The 74,000 extra lights with multiple light bars and roll bars, the chrome everything, the "jeep" stickers, etc. Plus, some owners feel their stock jeeps are also one of the fastest vehicles on the road, but, your every day Camry is blowing them away.

The only jeep I'd own would be a Grand Cherokee, most likely the SRT. I've loved those since the original about 10 years ago. Some wranglers and Rubicons look great, but, I can't get into the following or the "club" to own one.

I did read an article a while back about how the new Ford Bronco would be a direct competitor to the wrangler. Haven't caught up with anything recent about the Bronco but I do hope that's still a goal.
