No,...
I know the awd is quick from a dig, but not for me in a GT500. You may want it, but I don't. (I just can't see it.)

And that’s fine. I just don’t see the point.

Cobra for the last 40 years have been about improving handling and performance in a balanced package.

The Terminator broke that mold and gave us a monster. A Forged Short-block Supercharged DOHC V8, T56 and IRS.

It was not a drag car, but just an awesome beast head and shoulders better then the rest.

The early S197 GT500 sucked balls. It was a giant dick stroke to the old farts buying Carol Shelby toilet paper. Barely 100hp more, more weight, and one seriously ugly car.

The 14/15 fixed that with the Trinity, another awesome freaking motor.

I don’t want some one-trick BS Hellcat knock off.

Making 25hp more then the Hellcat or offering some M/T Tires is stupid and a waste of time and money. Just buy a A6 GT and slap on a Roush S/C if that’s all you want.

Having AWD is going to give you a performance advantage that no GT or rolling chassis builder is going to be able to replicate. It’s going to launch harder on the street and strip and it’s going to hold traction when running max effort mils runs or racing in Mexico.

Seriously, what are you guys expecting? A 5.2L 800hp GT500 with A10, Yawwwnnzzz

So,......I take it you won't be buying the new GT500 then?? lol
But seriously, I see what you're saying. People want something different and I can respect that. I'll be happy if it truly is 800HP, (or more with gobs of torque), and is TVS 2650 supercharged sitting on top of a 5.2 engine sending power through the drivetrain to the rear wheels.

AWD in a GT500

Now that's imaginative, maybe they can in throw rear wheel steering while they are at it.

Long term the last thing you want to do to a GT500 is add even more complication but sadly that is the direction the car manufacturers are taking us. It's all fun & games when the car is "new". After changing owners a few times as the car ages maintaining all the systems will become a nightmare where most will long for the day then the car only came with a blower, a stick transmission, decent brakes, suspension and only cost 40K. Ford could build that car but most owners want all the bell's & whistles to the detriment of us hot rodders.

Here's an idea. Buy a bottom dollar S550, strip everything out of the car sands the interior and the suspension install a built Terminator engine, wiring harness and a T56 Magnum and "wolah!" You have a world class chassis backed by a motor and tranny that will hold power better than anything that has come out of Dearborn since and will be as mod happy as the original. The new GT500 will be pretty much a "hands off" car in that department "buy & drive" only!

Sorry it was bugging me.

I hated the idea of rear wheel steer until Porsche did it and now I think they did it right and I would love to have it.

The idea is that the toe can change based on the car inputs. You can have stability at speed and aggressive turn in as well. I don't actually want the wheels to turn with the front wheels, but having them adjust their alignment to get the best of both worlds is bad ass.

I figured I'd just pop in since it's now October. Long way from that 4-6 weeks away announcement from back in May.

No.
Any comments on the other insider who said 22 cups and 8/7s Hellcat with huge tires?

A former Ford engineer (who saw what was coming by the time he left in August 2015) posted these responses about the upcoming GT500 on another board.

"Yeah definitely more the former, but turned up to 12. Exceptionally competent handling, but not a track weapon as it's main purpose. All around FAST everywhere all the time. ZL1, 911 Turbo, GT-R...you get the idea."

"It's a road car...it still has to be good on the road. They've tested it against cars like the GT3 extensively on the track and will continue to. It still has to be a good road car, and the GT3 is an exceptional benchmark for this. Ford doesn't just parade stuff around. Believe me, if the car is going out, it has a reason, and "confusing the auto paparazzi" isn't one."

This post was in response to the requests for GT500 specs from posters...

"It roars with greater than 8/7 a Hellcat from 22 cups. It shifts with the speed of a related supercar. It has lightweight materials in unusual places. It has rear tires the size of the bearing that Captain Marko Ramius gave Jack Ryan when they had a torpedo chasing them. It has light brakes that fill wheels the size of huge pizzas. It uses some 'screws' to do some cool things."

Yawn? Doubt you would get that feeling when you drive it.
No way this car is AWD.
I'm not sure what you drive, but I'm a real buyer for this car, and if it's not big boosted V8 power thru RWD, they've lost me and the majority of hardcore Mustang guys.
Lots of AWD options for you out there, so enjoy the competitions offerings; but this will be a fat tired RWD IRS that will finally hook and book.
I miss my '04 Cobra and enjoy the new GT350, and if you've driven one you know the suspension and brakes and chassis can easily handle another 200hp.
So Ford will boost the package with a few updates/surprises and all will be happy.
Just not sure what's taking so damn long.
