Just made a similar upgrade to my rig. Out with 670, but I only went with the 1070 for now. Still waiting to get my full waterblock for the 1070.

Old - 670 (short pcb so I could actually run a south bridge block even though it wasn't really needed)

New - 1070 (much longer PCB so had to ditch the south bridge block and it still barely fits)

I haven't built a PC in about 9 years so it's time for a new one. I certainly want to future proof this one as much as I can. The last one I built is still running great today, just outdated now. I occasionally play iRacing, WarThunder and soon DCS. But mostly just alot of Photoshop and Premiere CC:

Thoughts on this new potential setup?:

- CoolerMaster HAF X 942 Steel ATX Full Tower Gaming Case
- Motherboard: ASUS Z97-PRO LGA 1150
- Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor
- CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Liquid CPU Cooler
- Memory: G-Skill Rip Jaws-X 1866MHz 32GB
- Power Supply: Silverstone 750W 80
- Video Card: NVIDIA | EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
- Primary Storage: SSD | SAMSUNG 850 PRO 1TB SATA III 3-D Vertical
- Secondary Storage: HDD | Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB
- Monitor: ASUS ROG PG278Q 27" 144Hz G-SYNC
- Blu-ray: Yes
- Operating System: Windows 10 Professional 64bit
- Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials (Standard)
- Keyboard: Logitech G510 Keyboard
- Mouse: Logitech G700 Mouse
- Logitech G29 Racing Wheel: Yes

while that is a decent setup, it is a generation (almost 2) old. Skylake launched over a year ago. However, I understand people have budgets, and a 4790k will give a 6700 a run for its money. That being said, if you do any serious video work, consider a 5820k and overclock it slightly. Those extra 2 cores will make a big difference for certain cpu intensive video renders.

My situation is I have a $5,000 credits to ONE gaming PC company (long story). So I am trying to piece together the computer to get to that $5k mark on their website. I think that this older stuff is the best they have.

Love my 5820k, they usually overclock well also, stock speed is 3.3ghz and most people can hit 4.2-4.4. My chip is a good chip, currently at 4.625 at 1.32v

What is a realistic budget for someone looking to build a rig that can handle modern AAA titles at max settings on a single 60Hz 1080P monitor? Looking to build my first computer and those are my requirements.

Just the PC itself, probably 6-700. Add nice monitor or bigger SSD's and it gets more expensive.

Wow, much cheaper than the ~$1K I was budgeting for!

Now, who wants to help a total newb assemble the parts list?
