Sounds like recall notices are going out, but the replacement part is not available. My guess is that it's going to take a decent bit of time for Ford to come up with parts and service all the recalls. Are there any decent workarounds or what is everyone doing in the mean time to keep their face from being blasted off. I've heard mentions of just removing a fuse or having the dealer deactivate the air bag, but wasn't sure if these were plausible solutions.

Not one single issue on a ford, don't worry. Most all of the issues have been on imports located in hot climate like Florida. No cause has been assigned.

Mine just came in the mail today as well. It isn't that humid here, but it is hot as hell now! 102 today in Dallas. However we didn't get our first 100 day until July 26, so I ain't bitching!

Overall, I believe safety-wise we are better off taking the shrapnel air bag than turning it off. I don't believe EVERY air bag is throwing pieces at the driver.

Seriously....then maybe Nascar should start installing them too. I hate the damn things. I never felt unsafe in my 85 300zx, 92 Talon Awd or my father in law's 680hp 67 Camaro. I would rather try my luck with stock belts or a four point harness then tangle with shrapnel ...not to mention a F'd up dash and steering wheel to boot.

This is no situation to take lightly.

I work in the industry and have known of plenty of cases where unfortunate death has taken place.

Last one I heard of the young lady in a vehicle I will not disclose on this forum bled to death due to shrapnel slicing through her neck.

The accident didn't kill her, impact didn't kill her, lack of retraint didn't kill her. Shrapnel killed her.

Ford had to crash test the 2013/2015 GT500 Mustangs. If there was a problem with shrapnel, Ford would have discovered the problem with the shrapnel. I think I will drag my feet on this issue and may or may not participate in the recall.

The problem would not have shown up in their crash tests. The problem is a break down in the propellant do to do to moisture, heat cycling and time. This causes an unregulated burn rate and corresponding pressure increase. In other words the pressure builds up inside the canister faster than it can be vented into the bag and the canister ruptures.
