Someone I know accidently put race gas in their mustang gt . Its a stock 04 . I am not sure of the octane level or if it was leaded or non leaded but what would the consequences be ? The car stopped running a short time after it was put it the tank . I know it would require a tune if it were to run race fuel and heard it may burn out 02 censors and such , but the car was almost empty of fuel and only put a small amount of race gas in . Would it be possible to fill it up with regular fuel and then run the pump enough to get the octane level low enough to start the car again ? Or is it a drop the tank , flush the system kind of deal. I have done some research but didn't find any real answers .

Race gas shouldn't keep it from running

Kind of weird how the car started running rough right after he put it in the tank . Not long after the car stalled out. He also said he can't hear the fuel pump running anymore . I don't know much about race gas , but I figured it would be useless in a engine that's not tuned for it . Maybe it was running so rich that it just stalled out ? Not sure why the fuel pump would fail either . Either way , the race gas is definitely the reason the car stalled out .

should not make a big diff and would not make one stop running, it might have just a nopther problem not to do with the gas that's in it just fill it up with some reg gas and try it

I accidentally put a couple gallons of race gas in my Evo 10 and I wasnt tuned for it, I just filled the rest of the tank with premium and I never had a problem. your buddy might have something else going and it just happened to coincide with him putting in race gas.

That's possible . Maybe the pump was weak and the race gas was it's fait . Race gas is heavier than pump gas right ? So the pump would have to work harder to move it ? I'm just making theories based on what I have read so far .

Mine is tuned for 93 and I always put VP MS109 in it when I go to the track, no problem at all. I don't have to change the tune at all, and no race gas is not "heavier". Maybe he just got a load of crap old junk race gas, I would not buy race gas out of anything but the sealed barrel it came in. Or it is just coincidence his FP crapped out....did he make any runs or WOT it the day he got the gas?

Possible it was crappy gas. Happened to me after I bought fuel from a back woods country store. Car ran like crap and would stall untill I changed the plugs and ran some fuel injector cleaner.

Like I said , I don't know anything about race gas , so any information I could gather is from forums. I don't know what to believe. haha. It could have been bad gas . He didn't do any pulls with the race gas in the tank , It stalled out about a mile from his house .

With leaded race gas, it is a common issue for it to foul spark plugs. Doesn't necessarily mean that it would cause the engine to stall completely though. However not having any gas certainly would and could be explained by the fuel pump failing.

Pull the plugs and check read them (link below), clean the injectors and replace the fuel pump.

+1 had a buddie put in race gas but it was leaded and quickly complained of missfires and stalling due to the lead clogging up the inj.and foulding out the plugs

Over the years , I have i have used leaded and unleaded race fuel.

It IS NOT common to fowl plugs, and it won't plug injectors.
Way to much WRONG information.

The only thing that will happen most assuredly if one (weather it was you or your buddy) puts leaded fuel in a catalytic converter vehicle , is mess up the converter.

I was referring to the link posted for the plugs . As far as the info on the race gas ? .... I don't know what to believe . Everything I read is all over the map. It wasn't me who put the race gas in my Cobra . It was a friend who has a GT , like the title says .
