Oops! I see your top piston ring there! Lol.

It happens sometimes I guess. Is that a 2.9?

Also, that power level seems kinda low for a failure like this. Any idea on what happened?

While your at it, if you can get E85 run that and up your CR to 10.5 or 11.0 and take advantage of the fuel, then you can run way more timing.

Pretty sure it was due to lack of oil separater. A lot got built up and I was racing a shelby haha but im looking at it like im only wasting 1300 for the new block because future for the car will be 4.0l from the 2.9 and I wanna get 850 900 rwhp so a build was nessasary. Im going with 9.1 compression just for the 4.0 I want to do e85 also so that'll be a consideration

As it has been explained to me E85 needs more CR to take full advantage of the fuel if that's the route you end of going.

800-900RWHP on a 2.8 KB/2.9Whipple is daily driver reliable with a good tune.

Couple of questions if you don't mind as the only popped motors I have seen were OVER 1000 RWHP and on pump gas tunes and long pulls (races;-) ) in higher heat temps.
My former Boss is still stock motor on 18.5PSI, C16, 72lb injectors, KB Boost a pump, catless exhaust, CR Intercooler and radiator, and NO OTHER MODS is still street racing in Kuwait on a Lund Tune maxing at 7800 RPM is still making ALMOST 800RWHP for 2 years(knock on wood)

What boost were you running?

What injectors?

What intercooler and radiator?

Ambient air temp?

ECU read IAC's/ Cyl Head temp?

What base ignition timing?

What exhaust setup? Cats? Headers?

What fuel?

What a/f ratio were you tuned at?

and MOST importantly...who tuned it?

We can all learn from this and i think sharing as much info as possible will benefit the community and help prevent others from having the same thing happen.

The over 1000 RWHP build stock block failure was due to agressive tuning, high heat, and no race gas (TORCO)

RaceRat is making over 850 RWHP and ran OVER 200 MPH at Texas mile with no issues.

So sorry for your motor and look forward to figuring out what happened:eek:

BTW lower a CR will not make more power or be more reliable than a properly tuned stock CR motor, especially with E85, huge injectors, and a return style fuel system FYI

Im on my phone so can't answer all the questions now but heres what I can say off top of my head. 15lbs, 80"lbs injectors not sure what kind, a ford boost a pump, the ford racing throttle body, jlt carbon fiber intake, khooks headers and h pip no cats, running stock muffs with side pipe wide open, 91 oc for gas, gt500 upgrade hest exchanger dule fans. Amp performance in az tuned it and did multiple pulls even after car was at running temps but that was in December last year. When it went I did 1 pull onto the free way 40 to 120ish found a shellby that wanted to go did 1 pull 60 to 150 and right after another 60 to 170. The temp out side was about 80. After it whent all gages looked fine but atf was off of course. Im not 100% but pretty sure at wot it was close to 12.1. As far as everything else im not sure. And im going 9.1 compression just to be more safe when I do eventually put the 4.0 on there same for the return fule and and bigger injectors. To be 100% honest I think it was me telling them I want what I can get so they put it below its pissed off point and the oil from no catch cans was just enough after the 3 pulls. Idk and amp wasnt the first shop to touch the car they only fixed the tune from the previous shit shop I was new to tbe muscle car thing so I was dumb didnt look around

15PSI with 91 octane, GT500 OEM intercooler, OEM radiator, back to back pulls, and Ford? boost a pump? Any of these thing with less than perfect tune were a recipe for disaster.

A gt500 makes 560-600 WHP stock so with you at the ragged edge of the Boss block it didn't help.

91 pump...as the saying goes, race gas is cheaper than a motor. I ran a 50/50 mix of Sunoco purple and 93 on my "street tune" with 650 RWHP and 14psi daily. Sure it was expensive...but not as much as a $15000 motor.

Back to back pulls will "heat soak" the intercooler. This means after a high speed high HP run it will take several minute to actually cool the boost air to keep the motor safe. Best thing to do is take a break between runs, upgrade to aftermarket intercooler, water wetter, fans, and radiator.

And the thing I will always remember Jon Lund telling saying to me when I asked about keeping my motor safe in "race" conditions... He said "Andy, RACE cars use RACE gas..." "you want to be safe? DO NOT cheap out on fuels...C16 for race conditions and then replace the wideband O2's every couple thousand miles. Its all CHEAPER than your motor!"

Anyway make sure you call Jon or any of the other tuners people on this board have experience with and stay factory compression and keep the blower. With the right supporting mods (return syle fueld, E85, coolng, etc) you should have a 650-800RWHP daily drive reliable car.

Good luck and let me know if I can hep out in any way:beer:

I would love to go e 85 no idea how to contact jon Lund would love to ask him questions also to tune my car. As far as intercooler is the after market with dule fans. And I thought the boss already comes with "an after market radiator" or at least better than a gt? The pistons ate already ordered to I'm not to worried about dropping the compression tho even if it means losing hp. Do you know how to get a hold of Jon tho more directly?

I ran the c&R GT500 upgrade intercooler with dual fans, and their Road Race GT500 intercooler, Saleen grill, Jon tuned the cooling fans for full ON at 170degrees, royal purple water wetter, and RACE gas 50/50 with 93.

Racerat finally blew her Boss up in Nov when she decided to push it to 22psi. :lol1:
Rod snapped, carnage ensued. Stock motor lasted 2.5 years with lots of racing @ 850+

With 22PSi and E85 I assume you made close to 950WHP?? What RPM did you run to? Jon told me with the KB's he was saying 7600-7800 was max due to blower drive belts
