Is an auto 5.0 any slower than a manual 5.0 from a roll?

This thread is funny.

Everyone knows if your going all out drag racing then the auto is the way to go. Hell im thinking about getting an auto. I just personally think banging gears is more respectable.

Auto is 100X easier to hook on the street/track as well, they don't whine, pop outta gear, sticking pedals etc etc etc
+1

All out dragging, hard core dragging. That's all I'm saying. But DTR seems to think that autos are always faster than manual regardless of curcumstance or whatever. Like it's a fact from god lol, and if so I must be the manual antichrist cause I beat autos ALL THE TIME. It's a little ignorant ... I mean what happens if i were to beat him in a manual? Head assplode? That's cool with me, some people just have a anemic view of motorsports and what a car should be to only care about drag racing. Which if probably like 5% of the Motorsport world

The only thing I hated about an auto was the question: "Hey nice mustang, is it stick?"...an if you say no then ohh, but if you say yes then its oh that's sick.

Your probably that guy I'd beat lol

Probably still stock here.
I miss my m6 procharged 12' but wanted an auto didn't want to worry about clutches trans breaking stuff. So I got an auto detoured to a z06 first but got one.

In my old stalled auto geared nitros camaro I would eat cars with 100hp more alive from a roll:banana:

The only advantage an M6 has over an A6 if they're both relatively stock is the rear end gearing and the M6's ability to leave from a stop with some RPM. The stock converter's very tight and even with a DR and stock 3.15's, they don't 60' very hard. After that though we've got a race!

I not bashing autos, it's what I run for my super all out drag but I'm going sub8's
I can be consistent and not worry about human error and possibly break something at those speeds and power levels.

But a manual is an art, takes allot of skill and practice, man and machine come together. There's nothing like having full unadultared control of the motor through a gear box. I'm a purist and Motorsports enuthsiast first. Drag racing is such a small part of what makes a car In the car world. It's so boring to just mash a pedal and go to me unless your going deep in the single digits.

great responses guys, thanks! But I was really more concerned about from a roll. and you can say what you want about gearing or that the A6 is easier to drive, but stock fir stock the M6 puts down about 20whp MORE than the A6. So what do you think about that? Given a good driver, wouldn't that make the M6 pull away from a roll?

Haaa! Get over yourself. Manual is over rated, I have driven syncro and dogbox trannies my whole life and shift them very low in milliseconds to where boost drop in turbo cars can't be detected in data logs between shifts. I drive a 10 speed truck pulling double trailers everyday in every type of traffic or environment and can run through the first 4 gears faster than most people hit one.
All that being said, an Automatic is the tranny of choice if you want to go fast, be consistent, and not have things break in a 2011+ Mustang.

If you want to feel like a purist and be "at one" with your car thats fine, but it still doesn't change the facts.

If all conditions were perfect and you could "no lift shift" (not let up on throttle as you shift) as you went through every gear flawlessly, then yes. All that doesn't happen perfectly very often though.

If you want to go fast in a straight line and thats about it, what about road course racing or drifting? z25oh is right, drag racing is only a small portion of what we can use our cars for.

If you road course race or drift then you probably want to go with a manual so its easier to replace with a better manual whenever that Chinese crapbox MT82 breaks. If Ford would have put a decent Manual in these cars things would be different. But as it stand you get and Auto that is almost bullet proof or a piece of junk Manual.

10 speed that's it? I used to drive and 18 speed semi, get over your self buddy. Like I said I'm not bashing, but if you can't grasp that all an auto does is be more consistent and take out human error that's not my fault. Lol for a Motorsport purist in sports cars nothing beats a manual. It's too bad the coyote has such a shitty example to represent manual
