I had some issues at the top end of the track. Not sure if I hit oil or coolant or what. But the tires broke free and the car started swaying pretty bad. I've got a vid somewhere

That's scary. I remember the time (a long time ago) I got a little low on air with the slicks and the car was swaying on shutdown. That'll tighten your sphincter.

I guess i'll never get the "instant torque" for the street thing.

You use that "instant torque" for what, maybe 1 second?

After that you are up in your rpms, and shifting in at around 5k or so.

And that's if your going from a complete stop.

If your already rolling, and you hit it, it's going to downshift into the upper rpm's

My vortech pre production kit, went 10.86 on the very first pass with no testing. That was a t trim head unit. Car had a gear, exhaust and driveshaft at the time. No converter.

The paxton kit (for the same money) comes with the self contained 2200 head unit, which is even bigger than the vortech t trim, more equal to the JT trim.

JPC made over 800 rwhp at 14 psi on the Paxton kit with race gas and stock compression. And this was a year and a half ago now. Running 9's with a manual trans.

The vortech / paxtons come with a nice fat air / air intercooler as well. It's a very stout piece.

IMO for the money, these can't be beat. And the power potential is more than most people will ever use. In addition, I think heat soak is more minimal as well.

Terry your car is great, and the best example of a centri 5.0 that I can think of. There's a lot more out that push great dyno numbers and don't deliver at the track. The Roush kits deliver, not just for guys that are skilled mechanic, old time racers, etc, but also for the new guy or like me that's been away for 25+ years. Bolt it on with a tune and pulley and go, works for everybody.

To me that "instant torque" is for street driving.

I'm rolling along in traffic and want to pass, change lanes, what ever. I can just ease the throttle and go. I don't have to downshift or run up the rpms. I do most of my driving below 2500rpm, I've got enough torque to do that and still move up to the speed limit faster than a stock GT.

I haven't driven one of these with a centri, but I think I would miss the instant torque. Even though I have an auto and if I mash it from a roll it will downshift and either blower would be making plenty boost it is nice to tip in and get instant tq and take off.

Mine is a daily driver first and a strip car 2nd so the instant tq is awesome to have yet still runs stupid good times for one or two mods. If I did more time at the track I'd do a big centri for sure with a nice high stall but still be streetable with it set to lock up early.

I really don't think you can go wrong either way. Any setup is capable of running solid 10's while still getting 20 some mpg in a full weight car. Crazy what these cars are capable of.

I hear what your saying Jerry. But I know of very few people who put a s/c on their car to have be able to pass easier without downshifting

To me that would seem like one of the very last criteria for adding a s/c. That can easily be done with a gear.

A s/c is made to kick some butt! ;)

Come take a ride, your not missing anything ;)

You are correct though, in the end, almost any s/c setup on these cars will get the job done!

I can do it because I had Justin make me a tune that has part throttle shift points like it did stock and with stock throttle sensitivity, basically it is tuned for stock drivability. From the tone of his voice when I talked to him about it I know he thought I was crazy and it seemed clear that nobody had ever asked for that before. I really do drive like an old man.

It wasnt my last criteria it was number 2. Number 1 was to have a daily driver that runs 10's before I die. That's done, now I have enjoy driving it everyday and comfort is a big part of that. That's why the stock divability and factory suspension. It's an old man's car that will haul ass. :)

The obvious choice is the Roush TVS because there is a start to a kit going so cheap in the classifieds right now

I am going to have Justin tune mine for stock throttle mapping too, I like it nice and linear. I could barely drive the damn car on BBR's tune. I called and asked them if they could just change the throttle back to stock and leave everything else and they basically told me to eff off. This was after it took three weeks to send me a mail order tune... VMP FTW.

drivability is definately key.

that can be had with any setup though. IF and I say IF you have a good tuner....

Sounds like you love his tune. Shifts like stock until you floor it and then it will shift hard like performance tune. When you daily drive it, it will feel like stock with 2x the torque.

i actually don't like the stock pattern.

i think the car shifts into the higher gears way too early, the 1/2 2/3 is good, but these newer cars are in 6th by like 25 mph

i love hearing the blower whine and blowoff at about 25 mph in 3rd at 2500 rpms cruising.

but everything is relative to what you like.

I guess when I get old like Jerry i'll want it smoother and maybe even quiter. hell, i'll just get another vette :p lol :poke:

I've got the, stock mufflers back on the car and it sounds stock. The Roush intake kills the whine so its hard to yell it isn't a stock 5.0.
New mifflers arrive today so I should get a litlle rumble back.
I toy with the idea of a CAI so I can hear the whine. OTOH, I've always liked sleepers. Especially when there is a cop on every corner :)

I like the car quiet, I have the GT500 muffers on it and I like the sound. I can hear the blower with the 82mm pulley, just barely.

When I drove my F1A procharged car around with the bypass vented to atmosphere it sounded like a friggin jet plane with a bad power steering pump lol. Lot of people liked it but I hated it, I had a pretty quiet exhaust on the car and thats all you heard for blocks.

I wouldnt mind trying a CAI but I like the look of the closed airbox.

Since this thread has already been hijacked here is my old car with the F1A and full exhaust on it:

It was like fingernails dragging on a chalkboard to me, I couldnt stand it. If I was going to drive it for a while I had a D1SC procharger made extra quiet for me that I put on it, you could barely hear it. But those F1 blowers are loud, lot of people loved the noise though.

Haha you remember! That car was brutally powerful on the stock motor, al thanks to you. IIRC it was almost exactly 4 years ago. I wish you were still around the midwest, I'd have you do my 2011...
