Have you guys talked to Brads Custom auto in Seattle?

Also I had my truck tuned at HP ranch before john moved in with TMS. I have had no problems with my tune.

Brads is 10 min from my house. I'm not 100% positive but I *think* they outsource their tuning/dyno tuning?

I can say that Amazon Tuning Solutions sucks ass!! I got a custom mail order tune for my car. I explained my setup and DIRECTLY asked (more than once) if this might be too much to do with a mail order tune. I was quickly told by Rick that it was not. I ended up WASTING countless hours making datalogs, and even bought a wideband so I could log that, too. The real problem was that it was so bad, it was undriveable. The driveability was HORRIBLE!! I ended up cracking a piston, which then broke the rod, which then smoked the block. I did this at a whopping 2000 RPM and less then half throttle. Who does that??? Yes, the tune COMPLETELY junked my engine. After I learned my lesson to go to someone that actualy knows how to tune, it ran PERFECT with no changes to my setup. SO, this tune cost me over $4000 PLUS I couldn't drive my car while it was down. Never again! Had I followed my gut and not done the mail order BS in the first place, I'd still be driving that car now with the same engine............

Wow! That sounds 180* opposite from what I've ever heard about them. That sucks man.

I don't know all the details but would you consider your engine build somewhat 'radical' or 'wild'? Rick always sends a safer base tune just to make sure everything works right.

Is there even a small chance that there could have been a mechanical problem that was causing issues with tuning?

I say this because I also had a heck of a time getting my car to idle and run right with the new engine. After many datalog sessions, tune revisions, and head scratching I happened to find (by pure luck) that my catalytic converters were plugged and wreaking havoc on driveability/idling.

It doesn't take much to get our cars to not run right.

I'm currently an active member of the Subaru community, and while I know american V8's are a whole nother animal compared to the little 2.5l subaru h4's, up in Marysville at a shop called Maxwell Power Services, their tuner Dominic is held in high regards among us Subi guys. Pretty sure he can tune anything under the sun, so if you're not sure where to take your car then you should give them a call and talk to them to see if they can help you out.

btw, the reason I'm on svtp is because I'm hoping to sell my STi soon so that I can get a Termi. :D

I had my old 93 mustang tuned by John @ HP ranch and he did a fine job. Sorry to hear he's not tuning anymore.
Any good tuners in Vancouver or Portland? I'm waiting for the right '03/04 Cobra to come up - but hate the thought of no great tuners in the NW...
Too bad Brads doesn't do it! Those guys always did right by me in the past.

I have been talking to Marc at Blood Enterprises for my 2.9L build. They build some pretty bad ass cars but they charge a premium! Road trip to RET anyone?

So whats the deal with getting Rick to come down here for a tuning session? I rather wait until ive got my 2.9l on with all the supporting mods but would love to have my car tuned by someone who knows what they are doing with these cars. I wasnt too thrilled to hear that John ay HPR quit tuning and that TMS was taking over his dyno, I just dont have any experience with TMS but I dont really want someone with virtually no experience or rep to touch my car and ive been hearing some not so great things about them.

I know about a year ago the lightning guys were trying to get Rick out here for a tuning day. I believe it fell through, at that point in time john was still my tuner as with a lot of guys, so there wasn't much interest with the cobra crowd. Now I think with no "highly" reputable tuner around maybe the lightning and cobra crowd could get together and try and get Rick out here.

TTi or Carbconn... good places

I know this was an older post, but I have to say no on Carbconn.

My brother took his 2010 Challenger SRT8 there for the following work- Arrington cam install, shorty headers install, mild tune.

The tune was "off"... Die at idle, going around turns, and reverse.

The cam only gained him 24 HP at peak. Arrington said something was wrong, that it should have gained more HP than that. Either a physical problem, or a problem with the tune. The tuner (Alex) assured my brother that it was tuned properly and installed without issue... That maybe Arrington over estimated the numbers their cam's make. Since my brother had to leave for AZ for BP duty, he decided he would take it up with carbconn when he returned to WA.

While driving down to AZ the head side man. bolts backed off on both sides of the shorty headers. Stopping into an exhaust shop, they ended up replacing all of the hardware carbconn used.

Finally he decided to have the car tuned while down in AZ with another tuner due to the issues he was having. The tuner just couldn't get it tuned right and said there had to be something wrong. Sure enough, the cam wasn't degree'd right on install. There were a slew of other issues the new shop encountered due to the work Carbconn had done on my brothers car, but since I don't know those exactly, I won't hazard a guess.

My father also took his 2006 Pontiac GTO within the same week to carbconn, as Alex was known to be a good LS tuner on a few of the other forums. He ended up going to Tom Wong at Wong's Performance Engineering in Vancouver before he had a tune that he was satisfied with.

Just a "For your information"...
