i work at a ford assembly plant and have done the jobs that apply the emblems to the body (not the mustangs/cobras). we use a vacuum fixture, that has locator pins that use the edges of the body for reference, that applies the emblem in the same place every time since there are no holes in the body. the fixture is specific to either left or right side so in other words it would be very difficult to install the left emblem on the right side and visa/versa.
on another note i have seen brand new mustangs on the dealer lot with the gt logo on the right and the 40th anniversary badge on the left.
i've also seen a brand new comp orange mach 1 with a cobra rear facia.
i wonder if the guys that are finding these cobras with the wrong facing snakes are the original owners?

If you do a search, you'll find that many reporting the reversed emblems are, indeed, the original owners. So many/most appear to be incorrectly installed at the factory. :shrug:

I think he is stating both are facing back.

Actually the Cobra emblems were actually facing the right way before the wind tunnel test, but the shear force of simulating speeds of 200 mph forced them to turn back.

Try going 200 mph with your head out the window with your mouth wide open....

That made me laugh pretty hard... lol

Oddest thing I have seen was a post where a guy said his rear windows on each side were different. I guess the 99-04 body style with the GT's and Mach1's were different. Not sure exactly what cars have what but one side was curved and the other was slanted square. Interesting..-Shane

Correct. There was only 1 snake for the 93 so one side has to face the wrong direction. In 94 they went to 2 different part numbers so the snake would face the front on both sides.

Well....I just checked, and sadly my newly aquired Cobra is not a "reverse edition."

HOWEVER!!!!! I do just so happen to have an "SRS" edition Cobra! It says so right on the dash!

i remember seeing pix/reading about a 00-01 mustang gt that came from the factory with a gt badge on the passanger side and a pony badge on the drivers side. it was delivered from the factory to the dealership like that. The dealership called the factory and told them about the mistake and was trying to work something out like a authenticity paper to scam people into thinking it was rare. apparently ford pretty much said "oops" and that was that. now if a different engine was dropped into it by freak accident then it would have to get one. maybe that's why newer cars don't have that many engine options like the old days... a backwards cobra does make you do a double take though haha

My sister's 01 Cobra came with 2 different side scoops lol

My 97 Cobra came back from the paint shop with the emblems facing the wrong way. It took me like 4 months to notice it. Never bothered fixing it. Its not really a big deal to me.
