All the manufacturers purchase each other’s products to disect and go thru them. Nothing new, been going on for years.

Ford purchased a Ferrari back in the early 2000’s to take part and compare to the development of the 05-06 Ford GT

This.

When Ford was building the RS they had an AMG A45, Golf R, etc.

They weren't even shy about it, openly talking about how they ripped the suspension out from underneath the Golf on the pothole test and that the A45 had been collecting dust in a back corner for months because no one wanted to drive it lol.

It was a 360. Was generically sent off to auction when they were done with it.

They, had Porsche, and McLarens for the NGT benchmarks.

It was something developmental with the trans they were working on. The trans is partially designed by ford and there was a concern with one of the functions durability wise on "fords side".

Its no secret Ford and GM has had a beneficial relationship with each other dating back to the early 90s when ford sold the LS prototype to GM in favor of the modular engine.

Yup, it's true.

In my career, I have made "site-visits" [not auto-related] to multiple foreign automakers' tech center/campus; walking by casually glancing over at their bays seeing domestic [big 3] & their foreign-competitor vehicles with various out-of-state license plates [literally random across the US] in various conditions...
Some interior pieces laid out; some on dynos; some getting exhaust/emissions testing; Others hidden by a car-cover with signs posted "if removed or touched; One can be terminated"...
