XCAL Question...

Got a buddy who wants to check the codes on his 97 Cobra....

Will my XCAL 2 work to do this on his car? I know it can do scasnning but I don't wanna erase any data that I already have and what not, and curious to know if it will just read his codes. He doesn't need any tuning changes right now.
