‎114 American Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen and 56 of our NATO allies were killed in the past 69 days while 33 Chileans were trapped in a mine...

One received a little more attention than another.

Sadly, soldiers dying is "expected" in a war and it doesn't get the rattings shitty tv networks crave these days.

Funny thing to me was how most of the miners looked pretty clean for being in a mine for over 50 days.

And, all the miners had Oakley sunglasses.

The Obama regime really doesn't want to talk about the increased number of war deaths since he took over. What was the total deaths the whole time Bush was in office?

The glasses were used to protect the miner's eyes. Would you want a pair after spending >60 days in a very dark room and you were about to go out into a Desert? Just saying - people make fun of the glasses, but it was actually a safety item.

not to defend the fact that we didnt hear about the soldiers, but those guys in Chile were under ground for 10 weeks, which is longer than anyone has ever lived underground. ever.

I'm guessing the OP doesn't realize that its what sells that makes the news.

The entire point of this thread was to get people to remember and talk about the soldiers in harms way. A lot of Dads, Moms, Sons, Daughters, Brothers and Sisters are in a foreign land being missed by those who love them.

I don't care about the media and how it operates. And I certainly don't give a shit about some miners underground. I'm glad they made it out, but whatever.

My purpose was served.

I hear ya OP. News = advertising. People have been dying in wars since day 1. People got stuck in a mine for almost 70 days for the first time ever. People dying in wars is way more significant to me. But, the news is going to report... well... news.

Casualties in war are expected. Miners getting trapped underground with chance of rescue is unexpected.

And, all the miners had Oakley sunglasses.

Donated by Oaklay due to the fact the miners have only been underground for what, 60 days? IIRC they said they are the darkest tint available and the miners will be wearing them for 10 days for their eyes to fully adjust.

I hear you full and well, but honestly, your in the military, it is to be expected.
As others said, the news doesn't wanna cover it. Im very greatful for what those people do! But we dont NEED to hear the negative sides of war everyday. Most of us know. But ya can't walk around with that black cloud over your head. It's not that it isn't appreciated, I mean, those people DID sign up for it.
And the miners went through some hell! Never before has a human being, let alone 30 sotin of em, stayed alive this long underground... if you think about it, the military might wanna ask them some questions.

Point taken OP. Unfortunately the politicians in both parties treat these soldiers like they are pegs on a board game. And the general public is just so desensitized to these two wars that I hardly expect anyone to cry out for them to come home. Its funny how a new president comes to the helm and you can't find any "anti-war" protests in America of the magnitude that we had before with the other regime.

Let me put it to you like this so you can stop blaming people for not grieving for soldiers.

When the Arizona Cardinals football player got killed in war, the country was saddened by his courageous story and ultimate outcome.

When others died, you couldn't feel anything because we don't know them.

My point is, that unless you know the person or have heard of the person. Then hearing about them dying, isn't really going to ruin your day. When you watch the news, do you cry for every person that something happens to or just when you hear something happened to someone you know?

I honestly didn't care too much about the Miners, but given the severity of the situation. I'd say it was justified that they got the attention that they did. Afterall, these were family men that were simply out doing their job.

thats cool of Oakley to do

Not surprisingly, Web searches on the specific sunglasses are through the roof. Over the past 24 hours, online lookups for "oakley sunglasses" and "chile miner oakley sunglasses" have both surged well over 1,000%

Yeah Obama kept the miners down there to distract us so he can take our automatic rifles and Mustangs!?!?

He's gonna force us to wear spensive Oakly sunglasses so we don't see teh socialism cumming too!?!?!

!?!?!?

ALTERNATELY:

I find it a tragedy that the news networks failed to report how many pedestrians were killed, or how many people died of cancer, or how many Mustang drivers were killed, or how many people died of ___(build your own/combo meal)___:shrug:
