There are a few kinds. If she has Type 1 then it's just oral and a MASSIVE percentage of the population has it. If you plan on dating someone that doesn't have it, good luck finding someone that doesn't. 70-80% of the population has it. The fact that she didn't want to kiss you tells me that's probably what she has but doesn't know enough about it. Once you know what to look for you'll find that EVERYONE has it and you'll see it on actors and actresses on shows and moves all the time. It's very easy to avoid transmitting and receiving. I've been with people with oral versions and avoided it, it's not a big deal. They'll feel a tickle on their lip and know it's coming and if they're not an asshole they'll tell you. No kissing, no sharing liquids/glasses/pillows, no sharing food, especially no oral and a week later it's gone and they're not transmittable. Most people rarely break out. My line of work requires me to be tested throughout the year and HSV-1 is one of the required tests. Most STD tests don't even test for it because it's so common. Type 2 is genital, mostly, and no I probably wouldn't date someone with it. Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Beil, Rihanna, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and a ton of others you probably drool over. When I did retouching (Photoshop) for a living pretty it was pretty common to have to remove herpes blisters on models and actors/actresses. We saw it a lot there because a) a lot of photographers prefer light makeup and to add heavier makeup in post and b) the images are super high resolution. It's impossible to miss blemishes at those sizes. TLDR; If it's HSV-1 don't sweat it. Have a doctor educate you both on it and how to avoid it then have fun.
