would using this tire hurt me?

i have 2 cars, an 85 gt and my cobra, lately my cobra has been on 275/40/17 nitto drags...i absolutely hate them, and my 85 is on MT et street radials that are 255/50/16 and i love them

my question ...i kinda want to be cheap and buy 16 inch 5 lug wheels and put the mickeys on them so i can use them on my cobra....

my question is....would the tire be too narrow? i heard the more narrow it is easier on the irs...they hooked great on my 5.0 but that is a 290hp on motor...would these tires still hook well on the 410hp cobra?

as far as the "saving the IRS" question. the softer the sidewall the better. this is the reason why there are so many guys in the 10's on a stock-shaft IRS. they're running bias-ply tires at the track.
