Would 4:10's be too much gear for the 6sp AT?

The first four gear ratios in the AT are shorter and thats a good thing.
Would 3:73's be the better choice due to the 1:14 4th gear ratio?

Just wondering how 45-55mph cruising and stop/ go action would be like with 4:10's

just thinkin' out loud peoples

(BTW, on an N/A 5.0)

Its not about fear.

Its about drivability such as stop go traffic at 30-40mph.

Will the AT constantly hunt for the right gear selection
in those type of situations running 4:10's?
That 1:14 4th gear would be a ratio of 4:674 at those speeds.
Me thinks 3-4-5 gear hunting comes to mind due to the lack of a 1:1 4th gear causing excess heat, shifting, clunking etc...

How about a logical answer thats not posted from mom's basement :lol1:

Look at it this way, 5th gear is one to one in these cars. You will still have the same high gear, but some deeper gears when you want to come off the line hard. I haven't driven one of these yet, best thing would be to drive one and know what gears it has and go from there, or if you have no experience then let someone who does do a short drive in it. From the basement:thumbsup:

Interesting. This was the same impression one of the comparisons had between the Camaro V6 and Mustang V6. The Mustang was much faster in the quarter mile, but because of shifting they said the Camaro felt more lively and fun to drive on the road.

I have always been a little curious how Ford got such good gas mileage with such aggressive gearing and perhaps shift tunning was part of it.

That's what tunes are for. A tune is really gonna wake the autos up.
