Worthwhile gains from a mid-pipe?

I have a friend who has a 99 Cobra with the "HP Fix".

He wants to do some mods to get some extra power and I was wondering if it would be worth it for him to change the stock mid-pipe to something else.

He already wants to do a catback at least, just for sound purposes.

I did a search and couldn't find anything definitive.

I recommended that he do a catback, intake, and 4.10 gears and maybe a tune to start with. Is this good advice for some first mods on a 99 Cobra?

Midpipes generally show pretty good gains on new edge cobras. Everything else you said sounds good too.

I would say yes to sound only, gains would be mild if any at all.

03 Cobra has 400 HP at the crank with same pipes.........................

I plan on Bassani 2 cat X, best cats on the market............

I thought most of the power out of the midpipe or catback came from the midpipe

Considering the 03s were dynoing at roughly 370 at the rear wheels, they're already at roughly 400 at the crank before any mods :poke:

went from 276RWHP and 281RWTQ to 298RWHP and 303RWTQ

I just put my bassani o/r xpipe on with stock catbacks and the motor seems to rev a bit free'er and pulls a bit harder in the higher R's. I might hit the dyno Saturday. This will be the FIRST and only mod on the car so if I go, I will post my numbers with just a midpipe.

I went from 284/288 to 303/294 with my midpipe and exhaust... loud as hell, but I get a lot of comments on how good it sounds..

You will get a little more noise from the midpipe. The most hp gains you can get out of your entire exhaust is from your midpipe. That is what I was told anyway.

I put on a bbk o/r H and mac cat back with bbk long tube headers and i could feel a hp increase, but most of that could have been from the long tubes.
