Well the bottom one isnt production and the Jag XJ220 lost the record to the Mclaren F1 quite some time ago. I beleive it is in fact the CCX Koenigsegg... Good old 4.6 DOHC based engine.

The CCX was...but I believe it was beaten by the Aero. I know for sure that it was beaten by something. However, I want to say that whatever beat it only did on theoretics. Don't remember.

Still, I'd take the CCX or Veyron.

Mind if I slightly vary the question?

What is the fastest street legal car in the world?

Would 300+ mph do the trick?

Would you smile if it was an '03 Cobra?

I think it was based on the Ford DOHC 4.6L V8, but Koenigsegg independantly built the whole engine.

from Supercars.net...

"Koenigsegg also spent a lot of development time to cast their own V8 that could drink US-grade, 91 octane fuel, yet still run at a high compression ratio. In the past, these engines were controversial, as they used a Ford Racing block with Koenigsegg manufactured components. However, for the CCX, Koenigsegg have made their own block casting, leaving no connections to Ford or the Mustang."

The fastest current production car is the Veyron. The regular SSC Aero doesn't beat the Veyron in top speed, but the SSC Ultimate Aero has a projected top speed of 270mph according to wind tunnel testing. It hasn't officially run that time yet though. If it does, an American car will be sitting on top, woot!

That would be nice to see a american car on the top!!! I wonder if the major car mags would even report it! Sorta like how no one has tested the Twin Turbo S7 in a major car rag(ie Road and Track, Motor trend, Car and driver ETC)
