Anyone wire in a radar detector? Looks like mirror mounts are popular, easy on a 2011? Other ideas? Thanks

Passport 9500ix with a blendmount and mirror tap, best combination ever.

Works great, very few false signals and looks professional.

+1 - This is the setup I have, but I'm wired in via add-a-fuse with the wiring running down the pillar. Light/mute button is above my right knee.

I put a Beltronics RX65 in my 07 with a Blendmount and a Mirror Tap. Super easy install and it looks professional.

+1 a third of the cost of the big name detectors with similar star reviews. I've had my setup for years and never have been pulled over, gives me a good 1-2 mile warning. The mirror works best, highest up and away from the window gives the best coverage front/back.

Here's a picture of mine after a self install.

Thanks everyone. I have been reading on-line and still a bit confused of what to get. I had a V1, but cannot find it anywhere :cuss: . Is it easy to tap into the mirror wires? I did not know my mirror had power going to it. Mine is a convertible, does that impact the probabilities?

Thanks

I have a v1 installed with a blend mount on my rear view mirror and tapped into the mirror for power. I chose the v1 for the main reason of it standing out having the direction of the radar (helpful to know if a cop is riding up behind you or if you've already passed it)

Thanks for the thread Doc and to all that responded. I had never heard of Blendmount or mirror tap; just placed an order for both :). I have had a V1 since I purchased my car in 2008 and never came up with a permanent mounting solution other than suction cups that came with the kit. Looks like a clean install that will work well in my car.

Anyone try the Escort Passport MAX? * Spendy, but sounds like the latest technologies....

I just read some of the reviews on Amazon and I would still suggest the Escort Passport 9500ix.

I prefer a simple, easy radar detector that has proven itself.

I would not want or need all the different options (ex: escort live) the Max offers.

But that is just me, I want to set it and forget it.

Ordered BlendMount and MirrorTap on Sunday and received package yesterday via USPS priority mail. Installation was quick and easy if you have a multi-meter and know how to use it to test for voltage and continuity to ground. I am very pleased with the quality and adjustability of the mount and wiring harness.

If you want to get really fancy you can go with something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Beltronics-STI-R-Detector-Installed-Stealth/dp/B00169O1V8

I had this unit on my car before I wrecked it and it was excellent.

I have since bought the Escort version of this product... should have stuck with the Bel.

The only thing I like better about the Escort version is the lights are blue.

The detection is just as as good as the Bell, but the alerts kind of suck... and it costs more than the Bel unit.
