apparently there's a big debate on whether a plane will take off from a treadmill. so, rather than argue about it in the other thread, just vote. the mythbusters episode airs tonight and the poll is public.

There have been 200 polls on this same subject. No reason to start a new one.

If you vote NO, please post up your name any why you think it won't fly so we can make fun of you after the show...

you have got to be kidding me. a plane sitting stationary will never take off, i don't give a shit how fast its wheels are spinning. btw, does anyone have the vid of the f-16 power braking?:rollseyes

I can't wait to laugh at Black lightning. He knows aircraft. Although all you need is a basic grasp on physics which apparently he lacks..

how about you just have some humble pie and admit you were wrong. Its written pretty plainly. What could you have possibly been thinking they were talking about.

NO, Reason:
You need to have air flow over th wings for lift. cant just sit there with no wind and expect a take off. Its common sence. Unless of course there is some sort of twist to this activity

If plane is held stationary with moving treadmill under it = No
If plane is moving forward on a treadmill = Yes

Airflow over wings = Lift
