will handling suffer?

i need to get new tires for my 97 cobra. i have the stoc wheels (eight inch width). will handlng suffer if put 275/40/17's on the rear since the sidewalls will bulge out some?

also what is a good gripping street tire with decent wet weather performance that doesnt have a lot of road noise? Somethng under 250 per tire.

Handling may suffer some, but what you will notice is the center of the tread will wear out much faster than the rest of the tire.

The BFG KDW, Falken FK452 and Nitto NT555 would be some I would recommend.
