John Hall testing new Automatic Pro Modified, Jerry Bickel '67 Camaro with Pat Musi 903ci engine.

The engine burped on the starting line as he went to pull into the lights. He went to fire it up again and he cranked it over—I am assuming that he put the throttle to WOT to get it to start up (which activated the nitrous systems). As I heard the nitrous hissing he gave it another crank and...Boom!

Rickie Smith and John Hall's wife scramble to get out of the way of flying parts.

The intake top plate and carbs are folding out of the way by the explosion.

That sucks. 2nd pic looks like the guy was hit with something???

No, he was fine the guy's wife who is on the right was hit in the hip with something. She also had some ringing in her ears from the precussion. Luckily, I was wearing ear plugs and was not nearly as close as those two.
