widest tire for 17x9......

What is the widest tire I can fit on my mach with a 17x9 in tje rear. And any recomendations for a good street strip tire?

315/35 17 is the absolute largest that will fit, but it's unsafe and decreases the vehicles stability in corners, and balloons the tire decreasing traction as well. 275/40 17 is the BEST tire for that rim size.

ive got 17x9's all around, 275/40s up front and yes they fit perfect. and 285/40's in the back , they have just the right ammout of bulge IMO. :)

My buddy has a 315/35/17 Nitto NT555 on his terminator.. 17x9 wheels on it. It does bulge quite a bit but I don't think it's awful. He has no complaints and the car is 600rwhp.

toyo R888, BEAST of a tire. Nitto 555r drag radial and NT05r are good for street/strip, but dont expect more than 10k miles out of them. Im not sure if they even sell them anymore, but I have NT05 street tires on the rear of mine and like them pretty well. Nittos run small but a 315 may be pushing it pretty far
