why is this search engine low level?

i belong to alot of forums and im sad to say but one engine on this forum sucks.....the search engine!!!
sometimes when i try and search for something it says fatal error occured and sometimes it works. what is the deal with this?
only time i have truble is on this forum?
is there a trick to it im not getting? :shrug:
