I am planning on buying a T45 rebuild in the next few days from thet45source. Im trying to decide whether I want to have him build it or if I want to tackle this job myself. I would like to get familiar with the trans, but I dont want to be over my head. I was just wondering if anybody has built one themselves, and if you have any tips. I have basic hand tools, and am willing to buy or rent anything else I'll need. Im in no real hurry- just want it done by fall.

Any input?

My buddy has a rebuild dvd which goes in depth for just about every step. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have a problem if you followed that. Don't know if he got it from their site or from somewhere else.

Are you sure he has a T45 rebuild and not the old T5 video? I've never seen one for the T45 and would be interested in it if it exists. The old T5 video was awesome, I built my first T5 when I was 15 with that video.

Basic hand tools won't cover it. You're going to need a couple long jawed pullers. I've had mine apart enough to replace the input shaft and a couple synchros. I used to have a rebuild manual I'd send to members on here. But I think it crashed on my old desktop.

Could very well have been. I'll ask him about it.

I did on my GT.

Every bearing and synchro.

I bought a punch and lock ring pliers. Everything else I rented or was home made. It can be done... but it's not easy. I would let Zak (T45Source) do it, as I likely won't do it again.

I rebuilt mine myself w/ Hanlon's carbon synchro and bearing kit. Was pretty simple, I used snap ring pliers, a few pullers, and my 12 ton press. ALL from harbor freight. I may still have the Ford rebuild manual if you need it.

Here's a couple pics of when I did mine.
