I'm thinking about adding either a 2 lb. lower to go with my 3.0 upper on my whipple, or something like a 3.5 upper, and 4 lb. lower. I have the gen II, and with my elevation, and my headers, I make like 17.1 pounds of boost on a hot day with just the 3.0. How much do you all believe I would pick up by adding a 2 lb lower, or going 4llb. & a 3.5 upper?.. That should bring me to around 19 psi. It makes 598rwhp & 545rwtq on 18 degrees of timing right now. Also, how much would a race tune on 109, with more aggressive timing help at 17, and at 19?

What elevation and what type of fuel are you running to make 598 rwhp?

Well this is what I have been looking into for a few weeks.

My Tuner thinks I can make close to 650 with a 2lb lower and 3.5 upper. On a Gen 2 Whipple 2.3 with street tune..93 Oct. Here in NC with longtube headers.

I don't want to spend the money on a lower ($400)..So I want to do just a 3.0 RR upper. He says I will miss out on TQ.

NO WAY!!! You will not make anywhere close to 650RWHP with a 3.5 / 2lb setup on 93 Octane with a street tune which means fairly conservative. I can't even see you hitting that with Race gas, race tune, aggressive timing, etc. You need to UP that boost to like 22psi or so and mix that with race gas, aggressive timing, etc to see those kind of numbers. Even then you will be pushing it and not guaranteed 650RWHP

I don't think you'll see 19lbs with the 3.5/4lb combo. That is what I used to run and made 17.5 lbs. I had a Gen 2 Whipple with Mac longtubes btw.

well maybe a 3.25 upper with 4 pound lower. Or even a 3.5 upper with a 6 lb. lower.. do changing the size of the lower really affect torque numbers that much?

Central Ca,
I'm in cali and can only run 91 and was thinking of 4lb lower with 3.5 upper I was looking in achieving 600rwhp but looks like I will have to move to another state or run a fuel additive. :(

I am in no way a go-to guy for this info but the whipple im putting on came off of a car that ran 3.25" upper/6# lower and put down 638/611 (according to the dynojet chart). I believe it was not a wild tune, but I cant speak on the parameters though...

I am really interested in learning about the combo setups. Right now im having the whipple put on with a 3.25" upper/stock lower. I want to see what power/tq i put down on that setup before adding a lower and/or changing upper.

My whipple genII made 643/598 @ 21psi, 22* timing, 11.5 a/f with a 3" pulley (stock lower, stock manifolds). This was with 96 octane (93 + torco). Tuned by HBH.

Billy - get that whipple man!!

dayyyyum.. 22* timing on 96 octane?? And 21 psi??? Are you on stock bottom end?

I say 96 octane but it was 93 plus a couple of bottles of Torco. That was tuned at 11.5 a/f ruler straight. Hermann is the man!

That was the balls out tune .. My Daily driver tune is 19.5* timing, 18psi, 3.2" RR pulley, 93 octane.

So far 15,000 miles and running strong! FTW!

[edit] Yes, Stock bottom end.
