Which way do these brake pads go?

Hi all.

Was changing the brakes on my '96 the other day but ran into a perplexing situation: Two of the new pads have factory-attached clips (springs) and two don't. There are also the loose clips that you snap onto the pads where there are no factory-attached ones. I've only taken the passenger side apart so far, but both of the old ones there had the integrated clips.

There are no instructions. So does anyone know which side the pads with the integrated clips go on? Here's a picture of the pads (the top two have the integrated clips):

Those clips are squeal clips or wear indicators. Once the pad wears down to a certain point those clips start rubbing against the rotor indicating that pads are low and due for a change.
Pads with those clips are normally installed on the back of the rotor.
