Im looking at buying the Cobra R's 18 x 9.5 and im not sure what the best tire size would be to use.Im after the BFG KD and they only have 265/35/18 then they jump to a 295/35/18.I hear 265/35/18 on the front will be fine but as far as the rear goes the 295/35/18 might be to wide.I belive they used this size on the rear of the Cobra R though. Now my tire guy says it will fit but he will not warranty the tire on that rim because its not recommended.I will be doing some Auto cross with the car so any ideas would be appreciated.

I bought all 275 for mine, and was "told" that 295s were too big for Cobras with IRS. You might be able to get away with 285s, but I don't know for sure...

I also just purchased 265/40/18s for my 18X9.5" Cobra R rims. Got the Pirellis for $255/tire from discount tire Co. I heard 275/35/18s only have problems w/rubbing under EXTREME cornering. But with a taller profile(40), I wanted to be safe, so I went with 265s all around.

I have 275/35 Nitto 555 on my rims on my 98 cobra. I hear that the Nitto tend to be a little on the narrower side, and I'd replace these with 285's next time around. If you're going to auto-x, then I'd stay away with from the 295 (too wide for the rim), and probably stick with the 265/40 BFG KD's (this is what Ford used). The BFG KD are great tires IMO.

I use 285-35-18 all the way around. No spacers. If your going to use 285's in the front and if you are going to lower it. I recommend getting camber plates.

Guys, please help

I just got my 2000 Geniune Cobra R (18X9.5) rims on today and am really upset. On two of the rims, the finish is peeling and I can easily flake it with the scratch of my finger nail. What is up with this?? Anyone else experience this? I could understand one rim, but two experiencing this problem????

Thanks,
Dean

Where did you get the Rims from? I had the exact problem.. PM me and tell me the story...

Also.. I am running 275/35's right now.. I plan to upgrade to some 285's or 295 DR's in the future if they fit.. Oh.. I am running the 00R's in Silver...

Like Cobra-R said above 265/40 was the original size tire on the R's. I'm running 275/35 on my R now, and have not had any rubbing issues, even at the open track events.

Yeah, the 35 profile is fine for SN95 Cobras. But, you guys are comparing oranges to apples. You guys have a new body style mustang, which can fit larger tires and rims in the wheel wells.

Well.. I'll chime in again..

I have the 00R springs and 00R shocks/struts on my 01..

With 275/35/18" Kuhmo's and 00R Wheels my car will rub on FULL LOCK... My question regarding this is the following.

275/35/18 = 25.56 diameter
265/40/18 = 26.33 diameter

I'd like to jump to the 265/40's on my car so I can have a little better ride as well as physically making the car look .35" lower without "really"lowering the car. The 0.35" will just better fill in the gap between the tire and fender..

But I am worried about rubbing since the info I told you above. Granted I go to FULL LOCK only 1-2 times year :) I'm gonna just do it. :)

Anybody have some close up pics of 265/40/18"s on a 99+ car with 00R's on it?

Shawn

Thanks for the pic, I was looking for pics of the sidewall :)

This would help me decide (and maybe the author of this post too).. I'm sure there are millions of pics on the net of them, I'll go look!
