When should I do first oil change? 2012 GT

Hey guys, I'm at 2000 miles on my car now with the original factory oil.
At what milage should I change the oil and what oil should I go with?
Is synthetic recommended?

most manufacturers have a set time and it is in your owners manual.

Personally when I bought my 2012 Focus I changed the oil at 2500 miles and again at 5000. the next one will be at the dealer recommended intervals. I had it done at a dealers the first time because I was travelling and didn't want to do it in a hotel parking lot. The service writer was like "but it's not time" and I said yes it is and if I am willing to pay why do you care? LOL.

bottom line it is not necessary until the dealer specified mileage and you are spending money that is unnecessary doing it before hand. but peace of mind is worth a fair amount.

as far as the which oil, use whatever Ford says to use. Mobile 1 is always a good, if more expensive, choice.

If your car was mine, I'd have changed the oil by 1,500 miles. As RDJ said, it's not required, and following the manufacturers recommendation will give you a long life from your 5.0 Coyote.

Some of us have an OCD when it comes to lubrication. The acceptance of "sufficient" isn't good enough. If that sounds like you, go ahead and change it.

I would change the oil now and use Castrol syntec or Mobil 1 oil. Mainly because those brands are alway in stock at Walmart or O'Rielys.

Go ahead and change it. If you have added some power mods, I would use M1 EP 5W-30

Curious, why do you recommend EP Mobil 1 over regular Mobil 1?

EP is formulated with better base stocks and additives.

I agree, change it up. 5W-50 is a weak formulation in my book. Go with a true synthetic 10W-40. We use it in most of the GT500 5.4 and 5.8 engines.

I went with the 10 w30 as,being in AZ (115* today )I need the protection more for heat,as winter is no prob here.

The track pack 5.0L doesn't require a heavy lubricant unless you plan on using the car on a road course.

Advice would be acceptable if he bought Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10W-30.

If you are at 2500 miles or more, I would change the oil and filter now.
I would continue to about 5000 miles before changing over to synthetic
oil because you want your engine rings to seat well.
I changed my 2003 Cobra from Ford 5w-20 to full synthetic 5w-30 at
6000 miles. Car runs great.

Rings in an engine can be fully seated within 50-500 miles depending on the break in process.
