Oh hell no! I hate that as well. I use mine for the gym and plug it into my car/truck stereo. Its nice having hundreds of songs available and not switching cd's.

Ever live in a pedestrian college town? Say State College PA for instance? When you walk EVERYWHERE, and I do mean that it is nice to have something along. I never ride in cars or even take the bus. I walk at least 2.5 hours a day, of pure walking time. My iPod makes life a lot more enjoyable.
