What would you pay for this car?

Well, it's a fastback. You're probably going to be spending over 4k easily.

Edit: Should have read the bottom of the page. 4000 would be a fair price for both of you in my opinion.

In 2000 my father bought a 65 fastback with virtually zero rust and a few bubbles in the paint (poor paint job), it ran with a slight miss. He paid $3000. The price of these cars hasn't gone dramatically up since then, but that was definitely a steal on his part.

At the worst, I'd give maybe 4500-5000 for it. It'd have to be a K code though, for it to be worth it for me to go any higher.. and even then maybe 6000.

4k is reasonable, it depends on the rust issue really. Floor pans are no big deal at all, but how are the fenders and roof? Offer him 3k and let him keep the 289, imo it's a sin to put a 289 in a fastback anyway. :-D
