I currently work 4 miles from my house but am thinking of
switching jobs that will add 40 miles each way to work.
I'm not really concerned about gas because it is what it is,
crying won't bring the price down.My concern is mileage on
my car .Should I drive my pride and joy every day and over
load it with miles or should I buy a $1000.car and "throw it away"
as it gets beat down.??? ??? ??? ???

I live about 7 miles away from my work and I'm considering buying another car to drive everyday. Our gas is by far more expensive than anyone else in the nation but that is also the last of my concerns. I used to drive my GT as my everyday car and the Cobra as a weekend/fun car. Once I had to drive my Cobra everyday it's been interesting. Way more dings showing up and it doesn't feel as special to drive.

If you can afford a beater I'd advise it.

I bought myself a daily/winter car. It's a 95 escort. It set my back about a 1000 but it helps to keep daily wear and tear down on the cobra. It's easy to work on and repair. My drive to work is not as far as you but these cars were meant to drive and depending on the weather I usually won't let distance get in the way. I don't think you should worry too much about your total milage.

I have a beater finally ('06 Dodge Dakota). You're better off with one if you
have the means financially. If you don't, I say drive the Cobra. Too many
people baby them. No matter how much we like them, we need to realize
that they are just Mustangs...not Ferrari's, Lambo's, etc.

I agree with getting a beater! I live 34 miles, one way, to work. I added over 60,000 miles to my last cobra in just a couple of years. I am presently looking for a beater to drive to work now that I have bought me another snake! I just don't want to wear out my ride. I plan on keeping this one for a while and I would like it to last! If I lived closer, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had my Cobra for 2 years now and it has over 30k on it. I drive to work about 25 miles each way and I think it is just getting "broken in". It has a couple of rock dings on the front, but nothing major.

Recently I rebuilt the suspension on my old '93 Explorer & started driving it more often to keep the miles down on the Cobra. I agree that it feels more "special" to drive it when you have been in a beater for a week or so, but with a long drive to work & back, I also appreciate the comfortable seats, nice tunes and wind with the top down on a cool night. The occassional opportunity to open it up on a lonely straight section keeps it interesting too.

Bottom line, it's great to have a beater for taking the dog to the vet & hauling lumber, but I would rather drive the Cobra most of the time.

drive it, you'll never get the money you put into your car out of it when you sell it anyways, so you might as well enjoy it while you have it

i bought a 95 accord for my beater about a year and a half ago. Since then I smacked a deer, replaced hood, fender, door and repainted the whole car including jambs ferrari silver and put some kyowa racing wheels in black on it.
Then just recently it was broke into, bastards took my alpine deck and smashed my window. Now I have a viper keyless entry alarm with a kenwood deck and tinted windows. It's still my beater but damn its getting costly.
I could have bought a whipple and supporting mods instead.

I like having it but it seems that everytime I drive it I run up on all types of competition for the cobra, and when I drive the cobra, I don't see chit
